I have been driving for over 25 years, with no penalties and full no claims bonus and now these lumps of crap have forced me to buy a satnav, which constantly upsets my driving rhythm by pinging when we approach one of the wretched things. I then turn my attention away from driving to search for the thing and look down at the indicator to see how far away I am from it and then I look for indicators of speed limits. With all this going on, I am sure I am a short time away from a safety camera induced accident. They are dangerous and I would like to see civil unrest to smash them to pieces or put graffiti artists to work to cover them up. What do you think ?

Never has a question invoked such self righteous and self-satisfied smugness. 60% of the answers say 'i'm a little goody two shoes, live within the limits, don't think, just obey.' Your inability to question what is blatantly wrong is pathetic.

Our basic assumption is that these cameras are properly set and that they're used only in "high accident" areas to keep traffic safe. It's also an assumption that speed limits are set for our benefit to keep traffic moving quickly but safely.
THOSE ARE HUGE ASSUMPTIONS!!!!!
Basically these cameras are owned by private companies and those companies have a vested interest in you getting a ticket. When I see a 6 lane road with no curves and a turning lane in the middle and bicycle lanes on both sides, you can't tell me that 35 mph is appropriate.

Don't worry the next generation speed cameras will work an average for a section of road, then you will have to stay within the limit as there is no excuse for being above the limit of several miles, as the speeders do now only slowing down for the camera. I hope that your satnav is capable of differentiating between roads and tracks or you could find yourself up a farm track and unable to turn round. I presume that the 10% allowance is still in force when working out speeds as there are still cars around that were built in the 50's and 60's.

There is a simple solution - drive within the speed limit. I have done, particularly since I was last caught and offered a speed awareness course instead of the points. Not to mention saving a fortune in fuel!
My main concern with your question is more to do with you not being aware of a speed limit - that should be second nature, particularly if you've been driving for 25 years!
Having said that, there should be more red light and box junction cameras to remind people how to use them and stop people blocking up junctions and causing accidents.

Sorry i think we need a reminder of actually why we have speed cameras, they ain't just there to annoy people they are there to make sure stupid idiots from speeding around.
Maybe if you took out the SATNAV and spend the time concentrating on your speed then you would have no pinging to distract you.
Also imagine if your son/daughter had been killed by a driver who was speeding and you were told if that driver had been within or lower than the speed limit your child may still be alive today, would you be still getting people to wreck them?or would you be campaigning to get more installed?

Both right and wrong. I think you should learn to fly maybe a helicopter you could land that sucker on the roof like care flight. No need to worry about speed cameras unless flying over Iraq you might worry about an occasional RPG. Or get a set of those revolving license plates like James Bond. If you do have a speed camera induced accident please have S.C.I.A. camera in your car to catch the footage and have your next of kin post it on YouTube.

The camera didn't cause the accident-- your driving method caused it.
Learn the speed limits for your route and obey them.
While the cameras do seem to be an invasion of privacy and not a good way to enforce the law, I find it particularly ridiculous for you to say they would cause you to have an accident.

I think if you shut off the distracting pings, you won't get in any accidents. If that means having to drive within the speed limit... OH WELL!

Did the handle acquire the fee ticket, or did you? Your handle has no validity on the fee ticket. additionally, the court docket isn't stupid. Tickets are sturdy for a definite quantity of years. they're going to have the means to tell you at present as much as date your fee ticket. yet, it won't make a distinction in the 1st place. Your call is the main mandatory area.

I say they are the right thing to do. They can make areas safer to drive in and at the same time bring in more revenue for the city. Don't wanna ticket? Then don't speed.
