Orthopaedic, also spelled orthopedic, is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. In other words it is the study of your bones. When you break a bone, sprain or strain a ligament, or pull something, you would go to an orthopedic (orthopaedic) surgeon, to determine cause and severity of the injury. From the Greek roots ortha-"straight" + pais-"child."
