I know my doctor has to recommend that and all and I have that. Does medicare/medicaid cover it if it's a necessity? Are there grants out there for this?

Ist of all, I had gastric b pass. Very hard on the body. Try the lap band, cost less much less and less recovery time. Insurance more likely to pay for. No matter which way you decide on check out your Doctor COMPLETELY. Also if your insurance denies you , which they might. You can and shouls appeal. Be tough, say they are discriminating against you . And if they do not reconsider you will continue and retain legal counsel. Make sure your Doctor is in complete agreement that you physically have to have this surgery.
Good Luck

Hi there, I had gastric bypass in 2002 and do not regret it a bit. I lost 120 pounds and have kept it all off...went from a size 26 to a size 8. =) Anyway, I found this website to be very helpful in my search for a doctor, insurance information, etc. http://www.obesityhelp.com

They will have all kinds of information. It used to be free to join, I haven't been there in ages though, so not sure what it is like now. Good luck on your journey!!

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass have become very common and very safe now. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.

They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her Obesity surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps

No grants for elective surgeries. You have medicaid/medicare? You skimped on the details here.

Some insurance companies will cover part of it if the doctor states that it is a medical "necessity." If you haven't gone that route, I suggest it. Otherwise, you will have to pay out of pocket for the surgery.

well,..by the time you save and work hard for the money,...you will be thin and won't need it,

all kidding aside,......

first of all it is a very lengthy process,..you must be psychologically fit to have this done,..lots of testing to see if you are mentally straight. A good dose insurance would help,..but search the good ship Google you may find some money out there for just this cause.

I would look into secondary supplemental insurance.
