I tried taking a doctor prescribed pill to relax me, but I don't like medication and have decided not to go that route. I took it twice a month during the most hectic flights, and that was too much.

Well, prayer seems to be the only thing that has began to decrease my anxiety, and I'm sure in time it will heal me completely. So what has worked for those of you who also are uncomfortable flying, and must do so regularly for business or other reasons?

I used to have panic attacks just thinking about going to the air port, I was unwilling to go to the doctor and get a pill. Prayer worked for me, and it still does.

I fly all the time internationally. When I fly with my husbands company I usually sit in the cockit or in first class. When I fly with other companies, I try these techniques:

- Bring along a few book, magazines, puzzles (such as crosswords or Sodoku if you like those).
- Bring along an iPod, MP3 player, or CD player to listen to music.
- A laptop is good to have as you can play games on it, connect to the internet, and get any work done that you may have.
- Try talking to the people next to you. Sometime you will meet some really interesting people, and forge friendships

I do not recommend alcohol as it dehydrates you and you should be drinking water as much as possible on flights.

Remember, the pilots all have families too and they don't want anything to happen; they're going to do their best to make sure the flight goes well.

Good luck! And if you need someone to talk to, just contact me.

First of all faith is a good thing.Your fear is obviously based in your fear of something worse(death-injury),so your fear is that, not flying.Planes are the most safe means of transportation,so you must fear bus,car and other, especially bikes more.As for your primary fear, the one of existence, you should know that if you are going to die,you can also get choked by a sandwich. So,chill out.I fly 4-6 times a year since i was born! You should distract your attention with doing other things in plane, talking to others,flirting,magazines,games....If your problem is not solved, talk to a psychologist, not psychiatrist.Medication is not advised!

All of these work for me. Booze is not recommended as the best solution by most people, but I find it helps me.

1. Booze
2. Sleep
3. Just keep doing it until it gets boring
4. My Ipod
5. A good book
6. Good conversation
7. A game of cards

Think you have the right recipe, especially if it's used in times
of just wanting to chat with God as well as in times of fear (or
discomfort --same same)
