it would have been the concord, but they retired that, so it would have to be some other kind of jet.

The space shuttle in terms of planes the sr-71 or more commonley known as the black bird it terms of passanger aircraft the Concorde but neither Concorde nor The sr-71 fly anymore sadlye.

At the moment, the fastest commercial aircraft out there is the 747. It cruises at Mach 0.84-86.

From memory, everything else in commercial aviation is a little slower at least

space station is in earths orbit, (now that speed might be something worth looking into)( I thing it makes complete circle in 1 1/2 hours)

I saw the space station go over head last week, a bright dot across the sky in 4 minutes, I could not get over the fact that their were people in there. It was cool, I waved.

Nasa and DARPA have some theoretical planes in development that will travel at like mach 15... 20 years down the line, of course...

I would say jets because they can reach over 500 miles per hour.
