If you have the lung capacity, go for it. Jogging like most exercise, releases natural endorphins. That's a happy brain drug. I was a heavy drinker and took up jogging progressing to a marathon over 2 years. I felt fantastic and stopped drinking entirely. Unfortunately I sustained injuries, dropped out of running and started on the the booze again. trying to cope with the injuries and start again but the body clock is against me.

Exercise really does give you a natural high - it is a way to get the body to produce endorphins, which make you feel good. Addiction is when we need more of the same thing to create the same amount of endorphins (alcohol, drugs, chocolate etc) but exercise actually makes us more receptive to the endorphins we produce, thus the sensation does not dull, we actually get more enjoyment out of things, (all kinds of things) as the endorphins are more effective in all areas if we exercise

It really does give you a natural high. I used to be a drug addict and I just joined a gym. The first day I left after walking a mile on the treadmill I was smiling as I realized that the whole time I was in the gym, not one negative thing popped in my head and I just felt great. Go for it, it can't hurt!

It really boils down to this, exchange the bad addiction for a good one. Exercise can be as addictive as the alcohol.
