Only the insanely crazy devoted runners get this endorphin
"high" while running. Most of us average Joes just get plain miserable during jogging. However, what regular jogging will do for you is to make you more physically fit, and feel better all around, including having a clearer mind. We often drink because we feel lousy or want to feel better, and that's especially true of alcoholics. Jogging and being physically fit will help reduce your alcohol dependency, because you'll have a real alternative towards feeling better, especially after a good run. It does feel good after a good run.

As for it being a way for you to recover, I'm not sure. Here is what I do know. When you ingest anything like drugs or alcohol it stores in your fat. When you run, you work off that fat, which helps to decrease you dependency on certain substances. Runnig and excersise in general do give you a "natural high" of sorts. When you excersise your body releases endorphins, which are "happy" hormones for a lack of better term. If you do it regularly you will feel better, your self esteem will increase and you will be getting healthier. Good luck... hope I was of some help!
edit:
Sorry, I forgot to mention that as you work off the fat you may find yourself "needing a drink." While this is normal because you are relasing the stored portions of this, you must not give in if you really want to get rid of what is in your system.

alcoholics suffer from a serotonin deficiency due to neurotransmitter damage. serotonin controls mood, so the less you have the more depressed and ill you get. a good way for an alcoholic to recover if we want to talk science is by of course by withdrawal.... but whilst withdrawal of alcohol, eating a diet high in trytophan...(which is found in carbohydrates) is a way of keeping serotonin as high as it can be so the craving for the alcohol is reduced.
i think personally that jogging excessively wouldnt be good but a 10 minute jog daily wont hurt.
high carbohydrate diet is a must. but also a diet to include proteins is good. i say 70percent carbs and 30percent proteins and other fatty foods.
remember alcoholism is a brain problem. and all down to irregular nerutransmitter activity. however foods directly controll the nerutransmitters in our brains thus a good diet will help our brains with almost all mental conditions.

Uh . . . no. The best way for an alcoholic to recover (based on my own experience) is to go to AA. Exercise is a great thing, and yes, there can be a natural high associated with it, but it is not the same thing as recovery. In fact, sometimes recovering people who try exercise as a drinking "substitute" find themselves addicted to exercise!
And the truth is that being addicted to anything, including exercise, is destructive (imagine someone who goes running with a broken foot because they "have to" . . . that's the sort of thing I mean).

excersise does release endorphins which are a natural high but the best way to "recover" is not just to excersise but use excersise to replace the habit of drinking i.e. if drinking took place at 6pm then to replace this period with an alternative activity will displace the need for a drink.

That natural high is due to the raise in endorphins. You can get it other ways, especially if you make a point to engage in the other activities on a regular basis.
Here are some ideas:

Good luck with your recovery. And remember: "Too vigorous, and you get a spike (which is always followed by a crash). Aim for a gentle increase and your feeling of well-being will be less dramatic, but longer lasting."

jogging is the best and most natural thing ever and to the point it does cost you a single thing, if you find jogging a bit to hard start of with some cycling for about a month and then try jogging and you will see the diffrence straight away. good luck
