I don't like when people call theists names. I think it is uncalled for and makes us all look bad.

I can't entirely accept any scripture and that may make me an atheist from some people's perspectives, so I suppose I can answer this question. I get offended as a human being when people attack other religions. Even in this forum, I don't agree with all the views and beliefs of Christians, but alot of comments towards them are " in your face" and demeaning. I grew up in a Christian household and remember it from that perspective.
I believe that people listen more when messages are more sincere and less offensive. religious and philosophical aims are always to win minds and it's not too effective when the stance is always offensive. In addition to that, religions are what many people and communities depend on for faith and strength.
We had a discussion about religious items at work one day because some people say they were offended by the presence of someone's items in the work space. I said that we should not stipulate anything against religious items such as Bibles, Korans, and religious talismans because these personnel find strength in these beliefs. If we try to remove these from the work space, morale would go down and the atmosphere eventually would not be as hospitable. As long as it's not used for harassment there shouldn't be any problem with it.

I am a Christian however I would like to add a word or two. I do not appreciate any disrespect of others. It should not matter whether they are Atheistic or Theistic we should all have common courtesy for one another. If I have done so recently, please excuse me for that. I have been sick and should not be on this site today. Have a great weekend one and all.
Thanks,
Eds

I've learned to cool off about such things. I used to get HOT angry about it but meditation on the concept that their behaviors arise due to the causes and conditions that make their lives up gives me a cooler perspective on it. You see, some people choose their ignorance and wield it, some don't, so it's easier to recognize those facts, be of benefit where I can and just let the rest go.... kinda like the old "Serenity" prayer I remember from childhood... "God grant me the serenity to...".
Don't let it get to you... high blood pressure and whatever else getting upset causes you in discomfort isn't worth it... breathe my friend.

I'm an atheist but of course I will be disturbed whenever anyone is treated with disrespect, regardless of religious or not. On the other hand, a certain amount of kidding must be allowed without people crying foul for a trifle.

I'm not Atheist nor Christian.
I'm Agnostic, I however do think it's disrespectful to insult or judge someones own beliefs.
Believe what you want, But don't try brainwashing people into believing what you believe in.

Yes, I don't think being atheist give someone the right to be a bigoted jerk.
Whatever faith you follow, you should respect the beliefs of others so long as they're not spouting hatred and violence in their beliefs.

I don't see why I should respect people who make no effort to be respectable.
I don't mean that to apply to all believers, of course, and I've numerous times congratulated believers here for acting like adults. Just yesterday, for that matter.
But there are plenty of people here - notably the creationists - who make no effort at all to act respectably, and it would simply be dishonest for me to pretend to respect them.

No, not really.
Everyone has their own opinions, their own styles, their own way of doing things.
It doesn't really affect me or my thinking, and sometimes I think it's nothing more than people blowing off steam....though there are lots of people who just get a kick out of being rude.
