Honestly I think you should tell her why you haven't written. She is your Nan so she's been alive alot longer than you have and may have some advice to help you not get depressed again. She's been on this earth for a while she knows that bad things happen.
Dear Nan,
Sorry I haven't written you in so long. I've been wasnt feeling very well. I did not want to burden you with this issue. I am writing this because I am better know and want you to know that I didn't forget about you. ect
I hope this helps. PS I'm pretty sure your dad already told her. families do that sorta thing, I'm sure your nan was asking about you. So, if you don't tell her she may feel betrayed or that you dont trust her or feel comfortable enough to tell her.

Hi,
I think you should write explaining you haven't been well for a while, your Nan will understand as she will know everyone can be unwell at some point in their lives. If you don't feel like writing a 'newsy' letter just drop her a note telling her you are thinking of her and you will be in touch again soon. At least that way she won't be worrying about you and wondering why you haven't been in touch. I'd guess your dad has probably already explained your situation though. I hope this helps. Glad you are starting to feel a little better, take care.

Try,
Dear Nan, I'm sorry I haven't written for such a long time. I don't know if Dad mentioned it but I have been suffering from severe depression. I'm feeling a little better now and have realised how much I missed writing and talking to you. I hope you are well.............
and work from there.

Im sure your nan wont mind how you address her as long as you write - even better pick up the phone and say - hello nan - efore you tell me off for being a dreadful granddaughter can i say im sorry first????
Alternatively ...
Dear Nan
i know you love me so I know you will not tell me off for being such a dreadful correspondent!
Personally i say Dont worry too much - im sure she still loves you and look at it this way if she was cross, like most nans, she would have picked up the phone and shouted at you by now!!
Chin up
xx

just don't mention your illness. she has most probably asked your dad about you and he has told her. just ask her how she is and say something like, "i haven't been feeling very well recently, and you have probably wondered why you haven't heard from me, I'm sorry i haven't contacted you for a while but i haven't been in the right frame of mind for writing, but i am better now and am writing to see how you are."
you know, i have been writing to my nan for about 3 years now. before that i never spoke to her for 10 years and when i wrote my first letter to her i was so nervous. good luck xxx
p.s, ignore those first few answers, they have obviously got nothing better to do. how sad. lol.

How about, "Dear Nan, I'm sorry I haven't contacted you in so long, but I have had some issues I had to work out."? then go on from there.

Call her apologise give her an apology and a quick idea of what's been going on and then say you will write to her in detail!
Old people know more about the world than you know, she may have the best solution on how to cheer you up!
Good luck and welcome back from your little holiday away from the world (everyone needs one from time to time)

I would be honest.
Dear Nan,
I am sorry I did not contact you for so long, but I was so depressed that I really couldn't bring myself to call...I imagine Dad told you what was going on...
[Take it from there, and please from now on, stay in at least a little contact, no matter what, I can only imagine how much she will appreciate you doing so]
Pick up and start where you are!!!
