I have heard several different opinions, but do you know of any specific verses that I can refer to? Thanks all and God bless you. Remember, this is the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice!

Just so you know, I don't plan on "defiling" my body with anything ungodly. I was thinking a scripture or a reminder to speak in tongues.

If you are a christian you should know the Bible speaks of your body as the temple of God. As it mentions in John 3 that when you accept Christ as your Lord and Personal Saviour God tells us we are "Born Again", this is the Spiritual birth which takes place when God's Holy Spirit comes to dwell within the heart of the believer. So I would say to defile the temple of the Holy Spirit by marking up your body with tattoos or such, that would not be the thing to do. We are to be in the world but not of the world, keep your focus on the Lord and these other things will grow dim. Hope this is a help to you.

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:28
This scripture deals with pagan practices and God is warning the Jewish people about a pagan practice at funerals, where pagans would mutilate/mark themselves to appease their false gods. The pagans hoped that by cutting themselves and marking images/symbols of idols on their bodies, that they would obtain favour in the afterlife from their false gods, both for themselves and for those who just died.
Christians love to quote scripture without knowing the meaning behind it. If you want a tattoo, go ahead, God won't fall off His throne. You will have to put up with the judging & condemnation of fellow Christians though.

Well, "Everything is permissible -- but not everything is beneficial. everything is permissible -- but not everything is constructive..."
If, however, you are a true Christian then everything you do should be for HIS glory -- would a tattoo glorify GOD? Then again, if you cause a brother to stumble because of something you do then you have the greater sin -- even the apostle Paul says he will refrain from eating meat if it will cause his brother to stumble.
1Corinthians3:16 and 17 should give us pause, too.
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man DEFILE the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are..."

Under the Mosaic Covenant, Jews were prohibited from marking their flesh with pagan symbols (Leviticus 19:28).
Under the New Covenant, there is no prohibition against tattoos. We are only commanded to love God above all things and people; therefore, it stands to reason that a true Christian will not have a pagan symbol (which dishonors God) tattooed onto him or herself. There is no prohibition against a non-pagan symbol or picture being tattooed onto oneself.

It says not to mark your body or to trim the corners of your beard. I'll try to find the verse.
Here it is:
Leviticus
19:27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
I can't recall any verses from the New Testament. What does the Holy Spirit tell you?

The old testament tells us not commit idolatry. Tatoos are a way of glorifying the flesh.
EX 20V4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
The new testament is stepped up and warns of God's judgment upon those who defile the flesh that is burn idolatry in their own flesh.
1st Cor 3v16Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
With such long term repercussions not to mention the fact that tatoos are source of skin cancer it's just plan self centered ego/will run rampant, but God gives his children free-will to do this.

it is witten that God said and commanded men NOT TO MAKE any cuttings in their skin.
Worldwide there are several practices that have Occult type traditions of cutting, scarring, and yes even tatooing the flesh.
many people in the mormon church were once taught that tatoos are markings of gang type activity. being part of a gang and active in criminal activities, is NOT becoming of saint or a citizen of Gods Kingdom.
in fact it was written that men of israel shall cut or shave off the hair of their head, and in jewish tradition no one is to cut off the 5 corners of their beards.
but when a person does shave their head it is associated with shame and personal shame.
there are people who actually Cut themselve to decorate their skin with scars and there are mental illnesses asociated with cutting the flesh to feel the pain.

If you are asking this because you have some tattoos, the only thing that matters is what you do from today forward.
