Most defiantly. Problem being, the doors are often cheaply made, and this allows for radiation to escape. Sitting (or standing) directly in front of the microwave(over time) will certainly cause radiation exposure. This is a long term effect, so short term exposure, like heating food, is relatively safe.

Not unless there is a leak-this has happened in the past usually due to a damaged door or a malfunction which allowed the microwave to operate while the door was not properly closed. This caused the person standing in front of it to be cooked from the inside out-by the time they realized-it was too late. Err on the side of caution-you can never be too careful.

No.There are some foods like infant formula and breast milk that should never be heated in a microwave etc.To use one for food preparation at home, unless you have a "pacemaker",its not a risk. Theres lots of scary stories that are not substantiated by reliable medical research .The "cell phone " myth was finally debunked last month, they do not cause brain tumors etc.Standing or using a microwave, with the door closed is safe. They heat food by vibrating food molecules. There a millions in use,and millions of people aren't running to hospitals or doctors with some horrible new diseases. Take care. SW RNP

Yes, if you put your head inside the microwave otherwise the radiation emitted by the microwave is minimal and harmless

you can read for yourself at www.webmd.com but there's no unanimous point of view on that. some experts say microwaves produce harmful radiation but others argue that though it is true but the amount is so tiny it doesn't affect humans. i seek for the middle: i use it but try never stand in front of it when it's on
