My teenage son is currently fighting a rare stage IV abdominal sarcoma. My parents have had early stage melanoma successfully treated. My grandmother had some type of kidney cancer, but lived with it for years and never was treated . . she died at 95 from old age. My grandfather died from bladder cancer. A friend of my sons died from a brain tumor. A friend of mine has survived liver cancer. My mother in law survived thyroid cancer and has been disease free for five years.
From a support group I know about a hundred patients with the same disease as my son. I am in close contact with many of them. Out of that support group I've known about 30 who have died from their disease, mostly kids and young adults.

I also see alot now and am a survivor (breast) of five years myself. I don't know if the rise of cancer is simply because of our Doctors being better able to diagnose earlier now therefore being able to deal with it better or if it truely is on the rise. In the old days I think alot of times it was just misdiagnosed as something else.

Like 7 or 8 I think. And those are just ones I know closely, not like relatives of friends or anything.

Why do you ask? If is because you know someone who just found out. or think they have cancer, keep this in mind...more and more cancer victims are being successfully treated.
And, early detection is priceless.

I know a lot. I couldn't count t hem all, I'm sure I'd forget someone somewhere. I can say that I am one of them. I have survived now almost 3 years since diagnosis, and every day is precious.
Best wishes to all

A lot. Aunts and cousins, the great-grandmother from the line I take after most, a lady I used to work with, my oldest nephew's paternal grandfather.
And many of these people are dead after a long fight.
