I don't agree with you about the oil companies being responsible. I think Alphonse Gore saw this campaign as a way to be relevant again. After he got it started the Libs jumped on it. They saw it as a way to make the Kyoto decisions look bad. And of course Hollywood also jumped on it. I wonder if they realize how ridiculous they look, getting political

Why do you lie?(Or more like just make crap up, oil industry and taxes.... what planet do you live on?) In 1999 for every gallon of gas you purchase add about 5 dollars to that. That will account for the corporate welfare you support for the oil industry. Today 2007 the Republicunts have given a lot more to the oil industry a 8 billion dollar tax break and a 2 trillion dollar oil war in Iraq just to name a few.
My take on the issue is the 'theory" of global warming was first hypothesized in the 1890's. It was hypothesized that if we continue to put fossil fuel emissions into the atmosphere we will surly increase the greenhouse effect.
In the 1950's because of the increase of pollution especially particulate matter, scientists hypothesized we would cool the planet down too much, however because of the clean air acts around the world, macro pollution was decreased. But sense that time the population of people and fossil fuel consumption has more than doubled increasing micro pollution.
In 1954 the US government started monitoring CO2 in the atmosphere on top of a mountain in Hawaii. (why do you suppose they started doing that?) Anyway sense then C02 emissions has doubled.

The other part of the question is why so many people choose to blindly believe in global warming? Didn't anybody ever take a class in critical thinking?
I don't believe that your statement saying it is PROVEN is entirely correct but there is a very high probability that it is a source of the climate changes we are seeing.

It is all about Socialism. Control health care , Control Housing( They are give loans again to people with out credit checks using the vha now.) Control Energy. Drive the price up so the government can take it over like health care and make it affordable (Yea Right) And get everyone on food stamps. In order for them to take all our wealth and distribute it how they see fit they have to have control of everything.

Big OIl companies would not want oil taxed. They would not benefit from this. For one, it would reduce their profits. Your views on this issue seem to be all over the place.
