This girl seems way out of my league.
We joke in class.
We wrote a few e-mails back and forth still joking and laughing.
I wrote jokingly "we need to discuss over coffee the preliminary agenda for our new student organization bla bla bla..." not intending for her to take ANY of it seriously, and she responds:

"I don't know about the agenda, but coffee sounds good. I'm up for it whenever, so let me know if you ever want to go."

Maybe this should be obvious, but keep in mind this girl seems top of the line... gorgeous intelligent grad student... and coffee is about the most innocent rendezvous possible.

I know I'll have to feel it out to get a better sense of her intentions (hell, maybe she has a boyfriend), but give me your guess as to whether she's seeing this as a date or just a hang-out.

Thanks!!

The fact that she said "i don't know about the agenda, but coffee sounds good" leads me to believe that it's most likely a date. As a girl, I wouldn't agree to meet up with someone I didn't want to date unless it had a real purpose - ie. the agenda. So, since she pretty much blew off discussing that, it seems to me that she's interested. Maybe you shouldn't be so hard on youself by calling her out of your league and whatnot. She's obviously interested in you, whether it is as a friend or more, so go for it!

I won't use the word 'date', but this definitely a time to get to know each other better minus the emails and the jokes. By her completely disregarding the notion of the agenda and just asking you for coffee, means that she is interested. But you might want to do some deep checking to see if she has a boyfriend cause she might just want to hang outside of class and not want it to go any farther.

It's not where you're going to meet, it's the purpose of it. Oyu made it sound like business only. Either run with this and after you done "discussing the prelimiary genda for the new student organization," ask her if she's intrested in dating you. If she says no, respond like it is no big deal even if it is.

I, like a few others who answered, think that the word 'date' might be a little too optimistic. BUT, you are going to get to hang out with this girl. Hanging out can be as good as a date, enjoy it man and get to know each other. Who knows, you may move on to something more.

I'd do the coffee thing but DO NOT assume its a date or act like it's a date

Play it by ear.... worst case scenario, you get to have coffee with her... best case scenario, it's something more... you have to play the game, though, wait a couple of days before you get coffee etc...
