I assume you have a gas fire. You will need to remove the fire to remove the bird. It will no doubt die soon and begin to smell. The bird will be stressed and suffering just now so the quicker you act the better. If you Turn the fire on it will quicken its time to death by carbon monoxide poisoning. i.e. put it to sleep. Alternativly you really need a gas fitter to remove fire to get the bird out. Using the fire brigade to remove a bird from a chimney i think is a serious misuse of valuable resource.

Open one window wide and close the curtains to leave only the open window then remove the fire, or in my case the chimney ventilator and if you are lucky the bird will go out through the open window without leaving dirty marks anywhere
P.S. don't forget to close the door, the bird will be panicking.

Close your curtains (because when it does come out it will fly straight into your windows) and pull the fire out you need to do this before it dies because not only will be really cruel but a rotting bird will stink the house out. we had one in our chimney and my dad just pulled the fire out ,it was no probs, and it just came out of the hole on its own. Make sure you dont damage any pipes though

I once found two starlings with their beaks locked together and the RSPCA came out they were fine about it. Keep trying the numbers.
