It's usually because there's a slight insufficiency in the heart. It isn't powerful enough to pump all the fluid in the body around. And because of gravity and the leg veins being structurally quite weakthe extra fluid tends to gather in the legs. Dehydration could also play a part but I won't bore you any more.. LOL

Combination of cardiac problems leading to poor circulation and reduced lymphatic system drainage leading to fluid retention in the tissues leading to puffy feet and legs.

Fluid retention or oedema. They will usually take a diuretic for it such as Frusmide, and they should keep their legs up as much as possible when sitting. I have seen it to the extent where it seeps out of the legs and runs down into their slippers.
