If you have a diesel Ford, the sluggish pick up should be expected. Try not to compare performance with petrol versions.

You might be asking why there are no turbo models of Ford cars ... which is a good and bad thing.
A lot of European and Asian cars come with Turbos as options ... meaning they can accelerate very fast in a small amount of time as if they had a jet attached to them because of the higher compression of air and spark (simple explanation).
Problem is the lag you get on cheaper cars that are in the same category as Fords (Fiats, Toyotas, Saabs, and such). When you jam on the gas, the turbines start to spin and then you get this sudden feeling of acceleration.
Fords usually come naturally aspirated (meaning pretty much 'bone stock') or with a supercharger. Superchargers, having little to no noticible lag, usually have there power distributed throughout the torque band. Meaning you get the same rate of power throughout the ride and don't get that 'whoosh' feeling as with turbo.
So 'why is no sudden pickup in ford cars'? No, it's not because they're cheap cars. It's because they don't usually come equipped like other cars.

Have it checked, the car need to go on the test stand, you may have leak in the head gasket or your timing needs adjusting. It could be any one or multiple things.
