Your tonsils are primarily used to catch the junk that is draining from your sinus. So, sleeping on your make may make your tonsils swollen due to the drainage. However, I am betting it's from when you sleep on your back you "mouth" breath, which is drying your throat out and causing irritation and minor swelling. Try drinking warm liquids when you get up in the morning and see if this helps. If he keeps persisting you may want to contact your doctor.

Tonsils swell from infection either acute, sick today or chronic, been sick a lot and they stay swollen. They are not swollen from sleeping on your back or from overnight sinus draining, they are collection filters that work as part of the lymph system. You may have chronic swelling that needs to be evaluated.

No.When sleeping on your back, you are "mouth breathing," causing the throat to become very dry, that will seem swollen and sore. You may also have a problem with sleep apnea, where the soft palate relaxes and obstructs your airway etc.Sleep apnea affects many people, and can be easily diagnosed and treated. Take care. SW RNP
