iv posted various q"s on here re: my 2 greys and here i go again ... i feel a bit daft asking coz iv had dogs 20 odd years but your comments would be marvellous, iv read books on greys and seem pretty clued up on them but im worried coz it says that they should be eating between 4 and 6 cups of soaked dry food a day and my 2 jus bout manage 3...they are offered a meal in the morning which is refused and dont usually take the next meal till 5pm so in theory are fed once a day...they are not ill, have bounds of energy and dont scavenge for food so is the 3 cups that are eating enough or not? they have chicken as well mixed in but i always think they are not getting enuff so tend to worry coz they never seem hungry your thoughts plz GREY OWNERS SPECIALLY thanx in advance XXXXX

Not one of my 3 has ever eaten anywhere near that much!! Nor have any of my fosters!
Actually, that's not quite true, they did eat a little more when they first came off the track, but that's because they were very under-weight and needed to get up to a healthy greyhound weight (which means all their ribs still show, just not the way they were). Don't worry - your dogs are getting all they need to eat. However, unless their teeth are in really bad shape, I'd stop soaking their food. Greyhounds have enough problems with bad teeth and eating dry food would be better for their teeth and gums.

If they are not overly thin, are energetic and healthy and arent begging for more then dont worry. Anything you read about the breed is a guide only. Are they small for the breed? Do they need or want more exercise? Is the food you feed them of a really good quality? Does 1 cup of what you feed them weigh more than one cup of soaked dry food? If you said yes to any of these, then that is probably why. Try for a couple of days feeding them 2 cups morning and night. They might refuse the morning feed the first day but within 2 days they will be eating it if they get less at night. That will bring it up to the 4 cups you want, but just monitor their weight and if they seem to be gaining too much weight, cut it back to 1 cup in the morning. Remember, its better to be a little under weight than a little overweight, especially with grey hounds.

It depends on the quality of food, the higher the quality the less that needs to be fed, as long as your dogs are looking good not loosing weight and not getting too heavy than that is what count, mine eat less than 2 cups a day
If you want a place to chat with other greyhound owners and see what they are feeding and how much

Perhaps your confusing the amount of food that is required for Greyhounds that are being raced to yours. If they are being raced it would be feasible that they would require alot More food to replenish their energy and body mass. Your not doing that so the 3 cups a day is probably enough for what they are doing now, being your pet.
It's kind of a common sense thing don't you think?

Sight hounds don't pig out as much as other breeds do. As long as no more than 3-4 vertebrae show in their backs your doing alright, some are very hard to keep weight on.

ive a saluki x lurcher, he eats bout handful dried mix and tin of dog food daily he has loads of energy and is starting to muscle up as im walking him loads more to get him fit for show season. he will only eat wat he wants and if he wants more he asks . as long as your dogs look well and have enough energy theyll be ok, if youre worried bout their weight try adding chicken and rice to their diet mine love it and its good bulk food, or just change to a high quality or working dog feed.

The negatives are they do no longer act like cats or canines so which you may settle for them on their words. Rabbit urine can get stinky extraordinarily at the instant so the cage needs to stored sparkling to maintain scent down. Rabbits can scratch and chew and could, in the event that they do no longer seem to be dealt with genuine. additionally, do no longer plan to maintain better than one to a cage (till neutered) - comparable sexes will combat and opposite will breed at a youthful age. they have very gentle digestive structures so as that they might desire to have superb suited feeding. in the event that they get unwell, that is totally puzzling to handle so prevention is the biggest. The positives are they're very unique - a happy rabbit zips around, leaps right this moment into the air, differences direction and zooms off. This habit is named binkying. they're ok in case you opt to puppy them and that they are ok pleasing themselves. as quickly as you have your effortless kit, they're much less severe priced to feed and shop. they do no longer bark, meow or might desire to be taken out at 6 am to pee. they do no longer barf hairballs on the rug. numerous them will use a muddle pan, which makes it lots much less annoying to scrub their cage. numerous places that don't enable cats and canines might enable a rabbit. And in case you get interested in exhibiting rabbits, that is numerous relaxing and lots extra low priced than exhibiting canines, and so on.
