If you own both homes and they are in 2 different states are you allowed to have your cars registered in your primary home state or can you get it registered in the other , which is alot cheaper insurance wise? Is there a rule on this?

Your car should be registered in your primary state of residence. That is, wherever you declare that you live at least for 6 months and 1 day in a 12 month period.

Your license and registration and insurance should be in your primary state. Your primary state is the one you pay state taxes to. The cheaper rates wouldn't do you any good anyway once they find out you are spending a great deal of time in the other state.

You have to declare a physical residence, the vehicle would need to be registered/titled at that residence. You can have multiple cars in both states, however, you have to declare residence in one state only. If you are a high school student, and you go to school in one state daily crossing the state line, and live in the adjoining state, the parent must sign a delcaration that the vehicle belongs to them and that the student lives with them.
