He buys carbon offests for all his carbon emissions. This means that he pays into companies that then plant trees and such to ensure you have a carbon neutral lifestyle. You can do this when flying especially, a number of airlines already offer this if you order online.

The reason he gives speeches on Climate change and wealth is because a green economy is a huge positive for the developed world. It means less dependence on foreign oils, and more dependence on home grown fuels(ethanol from corn or hydrogen).

For example in North America, specifically Canada, we have the most amount of fresh water anywhere in the world, this can make Canada the world's largest producer of hydrogen fuel. This means more wealth in Canada.

As well for the USA, there's something called a corn belt as I recall. With ethanol you can grow fuel. This means that corn will be in high demand, which means more farmers being able to get paid fairly and have demand for their crop. Plus it means less money goes into the hand of third world countries that produce and export oil.

Aside from that, think of it this way, if we all save energy, by getting more efficient appliances, this means we draw less energy from the grid. This means less energy will have to be produced by coal, which means our coal reserves will last longer. It's like keeping money in the bank.

Also, smog in cities is a pain in the ***, and causes people to go to the hospital and even die of complications, this causes millions of dollars to get spent on people that could otherwise be fine. This money is also saved.

Another thing is it is costing a lot of money to have the natural disasters that occur because of fast Climate Change. This cost comes out of taxpayer's pockets, as well as insurance payouts. This means higher insurance premiums which is a pain.

Lastly, we have the freedom to develop all of these forward thinking technologies. This means we can produce and export these innovations. The Japanese have done this for years with their technological leaps, we should too. It also gives us a bargaining advantage over say China, because we can say "well we've cut emissions why can't you?"

So in conclusion, we can save the environment, we should, and it'll save us our most important asset nowadays, money! We'll also make a ton of...you guessed it...MONEY!

So let's lead the way, the way first world countries should!

Sounds like a political Question? Why does Al Gore buy Carbon Offsets from a company he owns?

To point a finger at Al Gore is to point a finger at yourself. What global warming conveniences are you personally using? For instance, in order to interact with the internet community, is your electricity wired to the local grid, or do you have independent solar power for all of your needs? Do you own a solar powered or biodiesel car? Or, do you get your electricity through wind or hydro power? In other words, what are YOU doing to help?

Ad hominem attacks against Al Gore do nothing but show how wrong and unknowledgeable about global warming you are.

Because his daddy made all of his money through oil and he's a hypocrite.
He was VP for eight years and he did nothing to stop "global warming".

Showing how one can profit from a man-made problem is one way to put a stop to it.
