I have had intense itching in my hands and feet over the last week and there is no rash or obvious cause of this. It is especially itchy at night and in the morning. I am not using any new products. The only thing different is that I just finished a course of antibiotics. I just want to eliminate the possible idea that it could be scabies.

Initially you do not see any obvious skin changes. Mites prefer to be in folds of skin, that's why they often are found between your toes and fingers. Eventually, if you have scabies, you will begin to see what appear to be red scratches on your body. At first you might think that these are just scratch marks that you inflicted yourself. They aren't. Mites burrow under your skin and lay eggs, that is what you are seeing. As gross as this sounds, treatment is fairly easy. You need to get a cream either from the doctor or pharmacy and apply it to your body; shower off after 12 hours. You don't necessarily need to buy new bedding, but you need to wash your sheets and towels in hot water and dry them in a dryer. If you sleep with a partner, they should also be treated. Scabies are highly contagious. They will not get into the hairy parts of your body, nor usually go above your neck. Get treatment. They will not go away on their own and you will be miserable. I've had them twice and picked them up where I worked. Good luck.
