You might have a virus or spyware, so run full scans. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
Then GET your Windows Updates. It won't help to get Internet Explorer 7... that might cause more troubles. So use CUSTOM when you do Windows Updates.
If this still does not work, then UNINSTALL Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Office if you have the full BUNDLE. Restart your computer and re-install it. Do not worry if you have Microsoft Outlook, since this will connect to your e-mail system without a problem.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

In recent versions of Word from Office XP on out there is a Detect and Repair feature under the Help option inside word.
Open Word, click on Help and scroll down to Detect and Repair (XP version of Office);

can you tell us when the error occurs or what you are doing when it occurs, or indeed which error code you get.
The best course of action if to contact http://www.microsoft.com and explain the issue. They have active technicians such as myself to help sort out issues.
I have also been made aware of recent update given out my Microsoft that crashes your system when you try to import graphics into Ms office application. I will try to get more information soon.
