If you are both at work all day, it is not fair to leave a dog alone all day in a small condo. However, if you insist on getting a dog, there are a couple options that would do alright.

A yorkie is a dog that is small, usually calm and doesn't require too much excercise.

Another great option would be to adopt a rescued greyhound. They are very lazy dogs that are sprint runners, so they can get by with a couple short walks a day. They love to cuddle and make wonderful pets. You could be a hero by getting one

If you are both working, please don't get a dog unless you can get two to keep each other company. Or if you can afford to take the dog to a doggy day care. The dog will be so lonely without anyone home all day. And a puppy is out of the question because no one will be home all day to housebreak it and give it necessary attention. PLEASE listen to what I'm saying. It's heartbreaking to leave a dog home alone all day. And keeping it in a crate is in my opinion, abusive. It's like having a baby and going to work all day and just leaving it in it's crib all alone. You might consider getting an older toy breed from a rescue group or a small mixed breed from a shelter. It would be wonderful if you could find maybe two dogs that need a home together like if their owner passed away. Keep in mind, how destructive dogs and especially puppies can be when left alone. They will also bark incessantly from loneliness. Are you both going to be working forever, could you wait till only one of you is working? The breeds I would recommend are toy poodles, dauschaunds, pomeranians, papillions, or many of the other toy breeds but stay away from very active small breeds like most Terriers like Jack Russels for instance. Research doggy day-cares and if you have you heart set on a puppy, see if they will take puppies. If you get a dog, you have to be prepared to spend almost every minute with it while you're home and not working. I think as newlyweds, there are probably a lot of things you'd like to do where you can't bring a dog like travel, eat out, meet new couples, etc... It is just not practical now. How about a cat? Cats can be very affectionate and are so much more independent. They are also perfectly content amusing themselves all day and will actually, just nap most of the day while you're away. I had to give away the most beautiful Golden because I selfishly got it when I was working full time all day. It was getting horribly depressed being home alone all day and consequently, became very hyper and destructive. Good luck and please do what's best for an animal and not for you.

May depend on your work hours, how much time you want to spend on grooming, what activities you want to be able to do with the dog.

Getting a puppy would be tough since you are not home enough to potty train

Toy breeds tend to have small bladders so cannot hold for 8 hour days

Breeds like labs, weims, viszlas, terriers are very energetic and could become easily bored long days at home alone and would require lots of exercise before and after work. So you have to take a look at the energy level of the breed.

If you like large breeds that a calm and can sleep most of the day away and requires minimal exercise , an adult great dane or retired racing greyhound can be good choices.

Medium sizes a cocker spaniel , bull dog

Small sized Boston Terrier, French Bulldog

If you both work and live in a condo, a cat would be a better choice. Cats are more independent and can generally handle being alone all day. Dogs are social creatures, and will pretty much go insane being left alone while the two of you are at work. Plus which, if you're at work, who's going to take the dog out to poop? You'll come home to a nice chocolate surprise on the sofa every day.

Go with a cat.

Best Dog For Condo

I think it is unfair to an animal to keep it locked up in a small condo all day, regardless of the size of the dog. Wait a few years, buy a house and then think about getting a dog.

We have a Lassa Apso andhe is really a good boy. We are gone from 8 am to 5 pm and he saty in his crate the whole time, doesn't dirty it either, he will wiat patiently for us to come home. I truly think that those dogs are the best. He is almost like a human. he is easy to train. hard-headed if you yell at him, but just don't. We have a 4 year old daughter and she can bite his tail and he will not even growl. He can understand sit, speak, get out, come, good night(he really goes to bed when its time) he even knows the diffence between pink and green. He loves to wear clothes. He likes to slide, he will patiently wait his turn to go, and he also likes to get groomed and feel really confident after a bath. They might bite a lot of stuff but for that reason, you put him in a crate while you are gone. He chews on your stuff when he misses your presence, I think most dogs do. After having a cat (they are boring) a germain sheppard, huski, rottweiller, even birds, rat, rabbits. This dog is the best, cute, smart, not too expensive, and not so high maintenance either.

As newlyweds you each have a lot of adjustments to make. The fact that both of you are working complicates things even further and limits the time you have to adjust to each other. I would suggest you hold off on getting any kind of a dog until you have given yourself time to adapt to each other.

i would say either a cat or nothing. if u dont have time to devote to the animal then u dont need the animal. and to all those people who say teacup animals there is no such thing as a teacup dog they r just bred using parents who r in bad health and r the runts of litters. they typically die earlier and r always sick

None. There is no point in getting a dog that is going to be alone all day long and does not have a backyard to run around in when you are home. It's no life for a dog.
