I saw this answer on another dog thread, it was rated "Best Answer". The whole paragraph...
"If he likes to chew, go and buy him a raw cow's hoof, knuckle, or a raw turkey neck. This will give him the chew satisfaction as well as a nutritional supplement. "

I would add pressed rawhide, especially for small pups; they can rip pieces of regular rawhide and choke.

But the "raw turkey neck" I had never heard of. Is that really true, if so, would frozen be ok? Better? I know chicken bones are not good because they can splinter.

I love to give my dog natural treats like hard boiled eggs, but a natural chew toy sound too good to be true!

I get sick of saying this, raw bones and meat are perfectly fine to give to a dog as long as its of a size that cant be swallowed whole. Do not cook bones as this makes them brittle. If you are in any doubt, ask your vet, they may have a different opinion to me, or you, but if you doubt it, dont do it.

Turkey necks or any poultry will not splinter, and are full of flavour and nutrients - hence good for making stalk. They are a fabulous treat for cats or dogs. However I would NOT recommend giving it raw to your animal as the meat is never THAT fresh, unless you're getting it slaughtered that day from the farm. Boil it first.

I would not advise any dog to chew a pressed raw hide, its hard on the belly and not all that great for entertaining the dog.

I work in a pet store with animals, about every single puppy that gets a pressed raw hide that I've ever seen gets diarhea.

If there were no bones in the neck it would not be a turkey nor a chicken nor any bird, as we are all vertebrates - animals with backbones, with the exception of sharks, every other vertebrate has bone vertebrae.

True that dogs until about 100 years ago mostly had fresh meat - raw fresh meat. Humans do not eat fresh meat, most of us. If we did, we wouldn't have to worry about bacteria and food poisoning. Cook your dog's meat if it is not killed in the past 3 hours or so.

Vertebrae are not hollow like other bird bones. The other bones are hollow to make the bird light to get airborne, no risk can be taken with the spinal column. The vertebrae are not that small and crumble when broken - but they are incredible strong.

I didnt see this question. I would never give any of my dogs raw anything especially raw turkey bones of any sort. Turkey is still bird bones and they are hollow bones. The will splinter just like chicken bones.
Sounds like it may have been someone answerin the question who has no clue they will let their dogs chew on anything! then post a question here as to if they should take their dog to the vet because they chewed on a turkey bone!
It is too good to be true so dont beleive it!

We get a turkey from a local organic farm once a year and with it is all the extras that you sometimes don't get at the supermarket.

I don't recall there being any bones in the neck, maybe cartlidge, but not bones as you find in the leg or wing.

We have never given it to our dogs, we save it for soup stock.

They do get the rest of it though, the heart, liver etc.. We use it as a treat on top of their regular dry food.

As for raw or cooked? I don't see the difference either way. Before canines started hanging around with us humans they never cooked their meat! So it is natural for a dog to eat a bone raw.

I've never heard of the turkey neck thing either and I don't think I would do it. Too much risk of choking.

Best thing I know of is a smoked knuckle (vet approved) as it is cartilege and will digest when pieces are bitten off. Don't like rawhide as it takes 3 days to digest although the pressed stuff is better than the chunks. Don't like the hooves either 'cause they absolutely stink to high heaven.
