About three weeks ago I pulled a muscle on theleft side of my neck by jerking it funny when I got out of bed in the morning. The pain was abolutely horrible, but after three days, it was significantly better, and after a full week, I have almost full mobility in my neck again.

However, I'm noticing now that there's a light pain in the right side of my neck, a little toward the back of my neck when I stretch and rotate my head in circles (doctor-recommended). I'm wondering if maybe it's caused by the fact that for a good week, I barely moved my neck at all, and it's just stiff (that's kind of what it feels like)? It's definitely in one spot and hurts the most when I tilt my head back, clockwise, coming from the right side.

Any advice is welcomed, as long as you're serious. Thanks :)

It is true that they take time but seeing a massage therapist is the correct thing to do. When they work on your muscles they also get to work on your back and shoulcers which have many places that can have knots and refer pain. Each of these places should be worked on to help prevent reoccurance.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. Press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

I think I did the same thing as you yesterday. I stretched and had a real long deep yawn and felt a twinge in the back of my neck. I went to sleep and when I woke up, I felt as if I couldn't move. I didn't got to either of my jobs yesterday (office/restuarant) and layed down. The pain was mostly where my neck and spine meet. I took Advils throughout the day, but they didn't help at all. Unfortunately I couldn't find a position to sleep in that wasn't painful. Last night I went and got the Icy/Hot patches and i put one on and went to sleep. I was able to at least find a position to sleep in. This moring I still hurt a lot but I do feel slightly better. I am considering a visit to a Chiropractor. But I think it is one of those things that will heal over time. Those Icy/Hot patches could provide slight comfort-consider those.

Do what you think is best for you. I personally do not think you would be letting your team down if you do not compete. You are injured and you can make it worse. (Not trying to stress you out). If on competition day you feel like you can compete then go for it. If you can not compete then tell your coach. Here are some things to try and help: 1) Heat for 5 minutes then ice for 5 minutes and do that for a few times 2) Do not stress about it. The more you think about the pain the more you will feel it. 3) Relax! 4) Advil / other painkillers GOOD LUCK =)

Massage therapists can relieve the pain in usually one visit. I would recommend alot of range of motion(what the doc said) and drink plenty of water. You could be sleeping wrong and you might be a little dehydrated it can cause muscle pain. It does take time, it sounds like you were in a lot of pain. Medicine in not the answer. Try a massage

Pulled muscles take a while to heal especially when its an area thats used often. they dont heal overnight - try any type of anti-inflamatory drug, and try not to keep turning your head - i'm sure there are some neck stretches you can do that can help.

Relax
Unfortunately, these things take time to work themselves out.
Try Aleve or hot bath/jacuzzi. That might relax the affected area.
