Ok. I read the book and of course it was great. But WHY did Frank Herbert whore out his baby to make that awful, dreary, confusing pile of poo???
All of the actors are good in other things - And even Sting was an interesting choice in casting. But even the best ingredients when mixed poorly and inappropriately can really be nasty.
A big awful self indulgent snot-rocket of a movie.

When it first came out, I rather enjoyed the Dune trilogy. But now, looking back, it was rather cheesy. Oh well, almost all of the old sci-fi movies from the 70's are cheesy compared to todays movies. And Sting was so young back then.

the Frank Herbert novels are much better. But David Lynch's Dune still had wonderful qualities. Eespecially in production design. What made it aweful? Best I can say is that a lot of the novel wasn't in it.

I hated Dune the first time I saw it, but then after a few years I became a huge David Lynch fan after watching "Blue Velvet," "Twin Peaks," and "Wild at Heart." After realizing what makes David Lynch brilliant, it's possible to go back and re-watch Dune and realize that it's a pretty awesome movie.
You're either a David Lynch fan or you just hate it.
For more insanity watch "Mulholland Drive"

I LOVE DUNE !!!!! Ive read all the books and watched both movie versions. I HATED the mini-series.....Paul Atreides is NOT blonde.....ALL the actors were totally wrong for their parts ! I STILL watch the original though......I had such a HUGE crush on Kyle MacLachlan ( Paul Atreides ) back then !

It looked like it was going to be a great movie - the artwork, the legendary story - but you are right, it was terrible. I couldn't even sit through it. Dry and wooden - though I tried the book afterwards and I found it to be dry also.
Peace!
PS - It is not Sting's acting debut, though he is the reason I personally tried to watch it in the first place. Sting was in the Who's Quadrophenia.

If there is no god, how can any movie be godawful?
To answer your question, nobody can contribute to the movie - it's done. Unless you're soliciting donations for a remake.

He replaced into an Atheist and did plenty stable. He started many charities nonetheless working right this moment. i think of that the religions charities (Christian youngster's fund, i'm finding at you) are for indoctrination as much as helping the needy.

It was awesome when it first came out. But like with most movies, after you get a little older, you realize just how much they truly do SUCK. But that's one movie I would love to see done again with the special effects the industry has to offer now. Then it might be awesome again.
