It is a title of office that is given to an ordained minister. In the modern sense of the word it means to respect for and the person using the title is supposed to be a person of humility, although most ordained ministers are anything but respected because most of them are anything but humble. The bible also states that we are to call no one father but our heavenly Father, yet a Catholic priest is referred to as Father, and we refer to our biological dads as father. These are all titles meant to show respect for someone in a position of leadership and authority.

I don't know why some people ignore what is written in The Holy Bible. A priest should not be referred to as father either. God is our Father and the only one to be revered.

May God Bless you.

There is no scripture to do so. They were told to do so, rather than searching God's word.

Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

--YOUR ARE RIGHT because a lot of them have the attitude that they are special, above their followers. Jesus definetly was against that especially with titles you referred to - CAN YOU IMAGINE how he and God feel about: Most Holy Father, His Immenence etc.

--In the Bible there is a reference to religious leaders("man of lawlessness") and what they like to be viewed as, it is a form of idolatry. Please Note:

(2 Thessalonians 2:3-4) “3 Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He is set in opposition and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god.”

--Jesus called the religious leaders "workers of lawlessness"

(Matthew 7:15-16) “15 “Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruits YOU will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?”.....21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."

--So many of them although lying about God & Christ still want to be considered special, it is a form of Narcissisum(self-worship

Agreed. It is a monicker used for puffing up. There is nothing worth "revering" in man.

Definitions of reverence:
* fear: a profound emotion inspired by a deity; "the fear of God"
* regard with feelings of respect and reverence; consider hallowed or exalted or be in awe of; "Fear God as your father"

Actually, I called my previous minister "Jim," not "Reverend." Which really irritated her, because her name was Claire.
