This is happening in Saudi Arabia, supposedly a moderate Islamic country. It is being done under sharia law so it is not the culture, it is the religion. So don't be fooled by anyone who says it is not Islamic law, it is.

It is a true expression of Islam's disdain and hatred of women. Why else would a girl who has already been raped by a gang of 7 men, yes 7, then be flogged for it in a judicial punishment?

How can anyone find comfort in that! Hell, no! It's not sick religion. More of sick society! Honestly, if the people stood up for their rights, this won't be happening. Also, its such discrimination against women! Women, stand up for your rights!
I don't think for a minute that this is written in the Quran. To hell with the people that mess it all up. Trust me, it's the society - the community, you know.

Whoa! You should say, "What a sick culture." There is nothing in the Quran that says to do this. I as a Muslim doesn't support this and I know that billions more are with me.
It is sick what is happening and don't worry. I will change this world for the better. Just let me finish college and graduate school. Then people will start to see changes. I will fight for people not to be abused. I'm sick of hearing horrific crimes against humanity.

I love how the Qur'an preaches a God that is full of grace, mercy, and forgiveness - for MEN. As soon as it's a woman who 'sins' (if that's what you like to call rape), then it's "Take her out behind the house and show her with your fist how she needs to behave."

I absolutely loathe violence in the name of religion. Who can doubt but that Islam is the Antichrist? People think that the Antichrist will be a person... but honestly, doesn't Islam make a pretty strong case for being the Antichrist as an organization?

By the way, yes it is written in the Qur'an thatt any woman who loses her 'purity' (virginity) before and/or outside of marriage is worthy of 90 lashings. If she speaks up against her husband, she's worthy of 12 lashings. In theory (though this is only practiced in half of the Muslim societies), women that go in public without the headscarf and veil should receive either 10 or 20 lashings (I can't remember which).

You don't actually need to 'distort' Islam to condone all sorts of inhumane acts. All you need to do is follow the Qur'an and the words of the Prophet. People think that it's just the sick fanatics that exaggerate the sayings of the Qur'an in order to justify inhumane acts, but I would challenge each and every one of you (especially you girls and women) to read the Qur'an cover to cover, then come back and re-post what your new feelings are on Islam.

Many Muslims themselves have never read the entire Qur'an (it's a long book, after all). There are certain passages that are often cited (obviously not the ones condoning domestic violence or jihad), and those are the passages that followers of Islam use to formulate their perception of their religion. Since the word "Islam" literally means 'absolute submission' (to the will of God), followers are expected to carry out the words of the Qur'an to the Letter. It's just dangerous.

I'm sorry if you're Muslim and you're reading this. I completely respect Muslims. I love and pray for Muslims, but I despise Islam. Violence is never inspired of God.

I have to wonder if the poor girl will even survive the 90 lashes.

This is a prime example of cruel and unusual punishment.

She's not being punished for beng raped - she's being punished for meeting a man who is not a relative.

Either way though, it is absolutely sick and assinine.

Since you have given no citations, I have no idea where this is taking place nor what the reasoning behind it is. I will say it is the country and culture that allows this, and not Islam and the Qur'an.

What is really sick is the fact that you are making grossly inaccurate statements about a religion you obviously know nothing about. Islam does NOT condone this, and you will find that this is a CULTURAL practice in SOME countries, not a religious practice. Islam is not a sick religion. Those who twist and distort it for their own personal use ARE sick.

Your question makes no sense.

What exactly is the connection between the religion and the punishment? Does it dictate the punishment?

Ohhhh God... not again... twisting the matter and presenting as the complete opposite... The girl receives lashes for her Un Islamic behaviour of going out with a boy she wasn't married to... The rape was an unfortunate event... And those rapists got away... once they are identified and caught.. they will be given the death penalty... And one more thing.. not only the girl... both the girl and the boy she went out with get the lashes... read carefully... and don't rely on fox news... or even cnn... Also, the punishment has not been carried out yet.. God-willing the King may interfere into the matter soon...
Shishhhh.. some people are good at twisting things... wonder how ...

Peace..
