It's the pack mentality. Waiting for "alpha" dog to eat first. My dog's like that too. Or, if you want to put it in human terms, he(or she) misses you.

You created the problem without realizing it so now you have to take steps to fix it. What is the worst that will happen if you do not watch the dog eat he will stop eating, but not forever hunger is a powerful motivator. What you should do is set the food down and walk away, give your dog 10 minutes to eat and if he does not eat pick it up and wait until the next meal and try again. Repeat this until he eats, and he will eventually eat. You may want to offer food 2x a day but he will get the point and he will not starve to death. Good luck
Our dog missing a meal is harder on the owner then it is on the dog.

Dogs are sensitive animals get attached to human beings.the dog gives unconditional love and your dog is expressing its love towards you.have you experienced any human being doing the same way with you.try and you will be surprised that you will not have anyone in the long run.perhaps the dog has found your love towards it too great and even though an animal which lives for food,it is showing you the way it is reciprocating your love.thank the dog

My Chocolate Lab does the same thing with my husband. I figure its something pack animals do- My dog waits until my hubby is sitting down to breakfast to eat. Its like a signal for him to go ahead. Also its kinda cute. Your dog loves and respects you :) be glad.

Probably b/c he's spoiled. I have a 13 year old dog who does the same thing. She'll bark and bark till we got outside and watch her eat. She WILL NOT eat unless either my mom or I are outside watching her.

Yes, my dog will eat everything when any of my familys around.. but once you go out, they just leave the food untouched.....such is the loyalty of dogs......i havent experimented to see whether they will eat it out of desperation or will they starve...i havent the nerve...
its perfectly allright....my previous dog used to do that, the minut we come bak from the movies or mall, she used to quickly eat up & then come to greet us...but the new one is just a pup so she eats up soon...its okay

he probably misses u...my dog(s) do the samething..when I was recently in the hospital for 4 days my daughter had to hand feed the dog so they would eat...they didnt even want to come out of my room..they sleep in my bed...but they get attached and will act out sometimes when ur not around

He might have separation anxiety. My 3 year old mutt has the same problem. She won't eat unless me or my boyfriend are around her.

ohhhh...your dog loves and misses you!! He is probabily used to more affection and attention from you and he wants to have it back.Love it back..that`s all they ask for!
