learning and achieving wisdom

Your question actually contains several meaningful smaller questions.

Are points and levels important? No, they are only intended to give the student some sense of how they are progressing. However, the further one gets from the original source of inspiration for an institution or movement, the more meaningless these things become because they are arbitrarily given by functionaries using set guidelines for their recommendations...in other words, the levels and points may or may not have any real value or meaning.

Is learning and achieving wisdom more important? Yes, they both are; however, it is important to note that they are not the same. What one learns by learning is knowledge: these are the things we can talk about and intellectualize about. Achieving wisdom is primarily an internal, highly personal "experience." Wisdom is NOT knowledge because it is NOT something that can be thought of or spoken of in terms of language. Achieving wisdom is attaining that unspeakable and unknowable, in terms of how we know ordinary things, realization.

Can one learn and/or achieve wisdom from others' experiences? Absolutely not. You may choose to do or not to do something based upon something someone has said, but real learning only comes from your own experience. Having a cup of coffee with a cowboy will not teach you how to ride a horse. You have to get on the saddle for yourself. And, based upon what I said about wisdom earlier, clearly achieving wisdom is a highly personal act...you won't reach heaven without climbing the ladder yourself.

Points and levels have no relevance whatsoever. It's all about learning and being helpful.
