Sorry but I hate all these answers people give where they quickly give a diagnosis followed by see your doctor!!! pew....what a waste of a life..
anyways, in answer, I just wanted to say, knwledge is power so do you have the best & latest anti-virus, anti-spyware? If so, or if not, ask an expert (maybe take ur PC to PC world or somewhere & ask them what do i need to worry about etc...
I think the best anti-virus is Norton & the best anti-spyware is PC Doctor (which you have to pay for).
I think this uncertaintly, not knowing what we are doing etc along with all these viruses, spyware etc IS a cause for some worry (ahough you are over-worrying abit which I can understand as I'm a worrier also), but worrying is not going to slove anything.

Have you even had a negative experience with a computer in the past? If so this could be the reason why. Because of this you now associate your computer with that bad experience, the computer becomes the trigger to these worrying emotions. You perhaps need to re-train your mind to not feel these emotions when you think of your computer, perhaps take small steps such as not doing scans for a whole day. Try talking to someone about your past experiences, it could even be linked to a person who you relied on alot in the past letting you down, which has manifested into a worry of the computer (which I suppose you reliy of alot now) letting you down. Try and talk this through with someone as once you have identified the trigger it may bring it into your awarness and break the chain. (hmm maybe I'm going into this to deep!)

There's nothing wrong with being cautious its normal.
Waking up in the middle of the night though that's a pit worrying.
I personally run checks every two days.........No harm no foul!
