Yesterday morning I took my little sister to school a little late and she missed breakfast, I have trouble waking up and my dad had to wait for me this is why we were late. Later when we dropped her off I thought she would have had breakfast…she did not. Right after this we had breakfast from a store nearby, then I went to school. Am I neglecting my wiccan duties by forgetting? My dad keeps telling me that its my fault she didn’t have breakfast and I am selfish…do you think I am?

Children really do need breakfast. Many sleep 10 hours and won't eat lunch until another 4 hours have passed. That is a very long time to expect a child to go without food - and it will make her a behavioral problem for her teacher too.

It is hard to get up in the morning - but your dad is right. It is your fault that she didn't have breakfast if it was your responsibility to get her ready in the morning. It is selfish to decide that an extra 1/2 hour of sleep is more important than making sure your sister has breakfast.

Having said that, there are things you can do to compromise. I hate getting up in the morning too - my husband usually does and he feeds the kids - but at least once a week I let him sleep late and I do the morning routine with the kids. If I am too tired, I pour them a bowl of cheerios and go back to bed. There are some great fruits and cereal bars out there that you could open for her - nothing with processed sugar though, as she will still have behavior issues if you do that.

Peace!

PS - it doesn't have anything to do with wiccan duties, just being a good person.

Later - After your comments I seem to understand that your sister eats breakfast at school and because you were not ready in time she missed the timeframe needed to get breakfast. It's a shame she was not able to eat while at home while delayed, but for whatever reason this is the system your family has come up with and as a member of the family you do need to do everything that you can do to be a team player. I still say the extra sleep is not worth the loss your sister had to deal with. Maybe you should go to bed earlier to make your mornings easier - because she should not have to go without her breakfast.

Peace!

You didn't intend to harm anyone, and by rights, the balance was restored to right, so this would not be a breach of any Wiccan teachings that I know of (although I can't say I'm a PRACTICING Wiccan, I have studied it as best as I can). The Wiccan Rede denotes that you should not with intent harm any living being. You had no intent to harm therefore you are within your Wiccan duties. Correct me if I'm entirely wrong- I'd hate to be saying something that's false info!!

I do not believe that your mishap was harmful though. Accidents happen, and the Wiccan religion accepts that ^_^

It is a parents reponsibility to get children ready in the morning.....NOT the older siblings duty ! Teenagers often have difficulty waking because the are going through life/ hormonal changes that require a great deal of energy/ rest. Your DAD is selfish for expecting you to be a parent.....it is HIS fault if one of HIS children doesnt get fed ! The Wiccan Rede doent really apply here.....I dont believe this was a conscious effort on your part to harm some-one....so dont worry about that !

hm.... well, the reed says an it harm none, do as you will. I guess the question is, are you doing something that is causing you to sleep in late, and causing your sister to miss breakfast?
If you can't get up early enough because you are staying up too late talking on the phone, playing games or something, and if it is the custom in your family to all get breakfast together on the way to school, and your sister missed breakfast because of this, well, if you line that up to the reed, how does that compare? One thing that I am wondering is if it is an isolated incident, or something that happens regularly? If it was just "one of those things" then I wouldn't worry about it, but if it happens on a regular basis, then it might be something to look at, if you are staying up too late on a regular basis to play games or hang out with friends, you don't intend harm to your sister, but in the process of doing as you will with your evenings, are you causing a problem for her the next morning? If you are staying up too late because you are overloaded with homework or cramming for exams, that is another matter, perhaps you could discuss it with your father, and maybe come up with an alternate ride in to school?
If you are going to bed early enough, and still waking up late, because you still feel tired, or you are otherwise not feeling well, that is another matter, and maybe you need a checkup...

I don't believe you have failed in anything, Gary. It clearly was not intentional what you did, and the Rede clearly refers to things we do on purpose.

However, to prevent neglect, it is better if you set up your alarm clock to wake you up 1 hour before school, so you can help your family get your sister ready for school. It is difficult for children to concentrate in school with an empty stomach. Next time, let her have breakfast and call the school to alert them that she will be a bit late.

Well, I don't know a whole lot about Wicca. I'm a witch ( a real one).

One time my talking cat Salem forgot to wake me up and I was late for school and Aunt Hilda had to do a spell to make time stand still so I could get to school on time.

Next time try that.

Gary, my lad, if it were against the "Wiccan Rede" every time I forgot something or got up late I would be in deep doodoo. You (and I) just need to be more conscious of what we need to do each day. and I am guessing that I am probably around 35 years older than you! Don't let it worry you, just try harder.

No you did not fail your wiccan duties imo...

You did not mean any harm by that.. everyone forgets things.. You did not cause any harm to her directly so you are ok in that department.. Like I said everyone forgets at times and make mistakes... you are human after all..

No, you did not fail your Wiccan Duties. Everyone makes mistakes. You did not intentionally harm someone.
