We have a puggle that is about 30 pounds. He is about a year old and he's pretty energetic. This weekend we're going to get a puppy, a pom-chihuahua mix, that is positively tiny. We are told she will never get over 5 pounds.

Will our puggle hurt the new doggy? Obviously there is going to be a period of experimentation and investigation, but will he eventually learn to play safely with the new dog, or at least leave her alone? We can very easily keep them apart if it starts to be a problem, but ideally they would play together or at least be able to play in the same area with only cursory supervision.

Are there any tips to get two dogs to get along? I'm afraid with as small as the pom-chi is going to be, it would only take one aggressive moment and that would be the end of her.

I have a puggle who is a little over a year old, 25 lbs and very healthy I might add and a bundle of energy. He plays with my brother and his wifes malti-poo who is only about 5 pounds all the time. They literally play for hours on end. Hopefully you did some research on introducing the two. Good luck and have fun!

It all depends on how gentle and well behaved your Puggle is. Has there been problems in the past with any other dogs? I had a Chow and a Min Pin and the chow never hurt the Min Pin.

Your Puggle will learn how gentle he needs to be with the Pomchi. My suggestion is when they are playing, be in the room with them. When you notice the Puggle playing nicely, tell him that he's a good boy. If things get too rough, then you are there to separate them. But it really shouldn't be a problem. For some reason, dogs seem to know that anything small is fragile.

I have always taught all of my dogs the words "be nice" and they know that means to be gentle.

Yes they will be able to play together safely. My pug will play with a 80 lb st. bernard if that is what there is to play with.

Once they get used to each other they will be fine. Let them set their own boundries with play time and try not to interfeer too much unless it gets aggressive and not playful. If you don't let them figure it out then your pom-chi will be afraid of dogs and never want to play. She will let the other dog know if it is too much.

Also dang.... a 30 lb. puggle is huge. Pugs and beagles don't normally get over 15-20. I also hope that the person you got these "designer mutts" from did genetic testing so you can have a healthy and happy dog.

Do as i did, make sure that you allow the puggle to get to know your pup. But dont let it bother it too much and your puggle wil learn to be easy with it. Also a good tip would be dont ignore the puggle or it will get very jealous and will hurt the pup
