It seems to depend on the dress...most run smaller than normal sizes so don't be alarmed when they tell you that you might need anywhere from a 16-18. I wouldn't worry about sizes however when you go looking. Try on anything you think you might like...they'll be ordering yours in for you anyway. So you might be trying on a dress that won't do up in the back...to something that is swimming on you...remember you are looking for style not so much fit at first.
Hope that helps....so go grab your best bra your wedding shoes and your best girlfriend and have a blast trying on the dresses. Be sure to leave time at the end of the day for a drink and discussion....Have fun!

Wedding dresses have not changed with regular size of clothes from 1960-1970. As regular dress sizes have changed with size of people wedding dresses haven't. So your wedding dress size would be about 14-16. Designers decided to make sizes bigger then what they use to be. Don't get discourage because of this. They really are about the same if you could hold it up an everyday dress to a wedding dress. Congratulation!

When you go into the shop they will ask you what size you need. The dresses usually run 1-2 sizes bigger than what you normally wear so don't worry or get upset if they bring you a sixe 14/16 or an 18.

If you are a size 12-14 you will be looking at the size 16 racks. Wedding dresses run about 1 size smaller than american sizes, so you will always be looking at dresses that say you are a size bigger than you are.

The dresses do run smaller but whatever bridal shop you go to they will know the size when you tell them what your normal size is. Don't worry about it just go have some fun trying on dresses.

I am a 12-14 and I tried on everything from a 12 to a 20!!!! It depends on the maker of the dress. A word of warning though, stay far far away from David's Bridal. It's like the WalMart of bridal dresses. You never get a straight answer, there are too many "mix ups", alterations costs are HORRENDOUS and they just put out dresses and brides like a machine. no personal attention at all.

Every designer uses a different size chart. There is no universal size for buying a wedding dress. When you go to the bridal shop, just tell your regular size and they will know which size to give you. They may have to measure you or just bring you the dress in your regular size.If it does not fit, the sales attendant will know whether to go up or down a size.
Good luck and happy shopping!!!

it doesn't matter what size you are when you go looking...the sample dresses are only in one size normally. So when you find one you like (if it is too big then they will pull it back to show you what it looks like) If it is too small they will try to get it on you to see what it looks like in front they just might not be able to close it. When you find a dress you like...have them take your measurements and then order the dress you like. Good luck and bring someone along with you when you go looking. I had a blast looking for my wedding dress!!

The dresses tend to run smaller. I wear a 14-16 and had to order a 22 because of my bustline. Will have to have the dress majorly altered in the waist and hips.
Have a great time trying on the dresses!

lots of them run a little small, I usually wear a 6 but my wedding dress is an 8 (casablanca)....I wouldn't worry about figurin it out beforehand, just go to the store and try on cuz different designers run smaller or bigger than others...get one that fits and don't focus on the number on the tag as much, thats not what matters in the overal picture anyway!
