I know several professors & guest lecturers who are inked. One woman has this stunning Mayan-looking backpiece...
I might see a private prep school type place being fascist about that, and *maybe* some smaller schools. Almost certainly not a community college, and it's pretty much guaranteed any state universities can't - let alone won't - prohibit body modifications. The latter are technically government run, and there are very specific laws on the books of most states that prohibit discrimination against someone based on their appearance.
They discriminate against anyone, and *blam*, instant lawsuit against them. Universities so don't want that.

Wow...I've never heard that one! Seriously...if anything (and probably not even), it would be an Ivy League school that may deny entrance. But I don't think this is true. I do go to college btw...an itty bitty private Catholic college, and they have no rules against tattoos. And I work in a large university...again, no rules for students (employees, I think so, but not students).

I finished college last year, and nothing at all was said about the tattoo I have on my ankle, since I wear alot of dresses and skirts. I also have one on my shoulder, which could be seen with certain tops I wore. I thought T.W was wrong, but then I realized he was only joking. You have nothing to worry about, except for all the homework you will have :-) Good luck!

Not even a little bit true - some people's religions require tattoos, sacrificial scarring, branding etc. - colleges can't keep them out

I have never heard of that. What college does your friend go to or plan to attend? What kind of drugs is your friend on? Did they even graduate high school? I think that my i.q. just dropped tremendously from reading and answering your question. I think mine might match yours now. I mean, I can only presume that yours can't be too high since you actually believed your friend enough to ask this question.

That is changing. I don't know of any schools that do that anymore, unless it is an obscure private school. Even now a lot of people have visible tats in the workforce without people blinking an eye. (My husband teaches high school and has a few visible tats.)

god no, like half of people that go to college have at least 1 tattoo.
maybe if you had a teardrop tattoo (meaning you've killed a man), and you had an interview with the college, they might want to reject you.

It's not going to be a problem unless you go to a really ritzy college. Of course, in that case just wear a long-sleeved dress shirt and no one will be the wiser.

Absolutely false. I went to one of the top business schools, with three tattoos at the time. Tell your friend, he's a knucklehead.
