I need to find out for homework. What is a female surgeon called in England? I know that a male surgeon is called mr.____ instead of Doctor.____ but what is a female surgeon called?
Also what is the male version of a nurse sister?

A female surgeon will chose the title which suits them, Miss, Mrs or Ms. They will sometimes keep their maiden (birth) name as do other female professionals. A male nursing sister is at present usually called a charge nurse in the NHS but I've seen the term matron applied to male nurses of a higher grade than sisters.

There are no hard and fast rules for female surgeons, some just continue to call themselves Dr. Some Mrs. One of our local married, female surgeons uses her maiden name and calls herself Miss.

Second part is easier, the term sister is often replaced by Charge Nurse, which can be used by either sex.

A male ward sister is a staff nurse.

Not sure about a female surgeon, but I would imagine "Mrs / Ms / Miss ___".
