My poor kitty keeps meowing and gently gnawing on things like my knuckle and the edges of chairs. He seems really calm, but he meows when he can't find anything to chew! Is this teething (I've never had a cat before, sorry) and what can I do to help him?

Go to a pet store and ask for teething toys for kittens.

A cat has 26 baby teeth which they get at 4 weeks of age and 30 permanent teeth which start coming in at 11 weeks. At 30 weeks, (little over 6mo.) cat should have all adult teeth. So yes, depending on how old is kitty, he may be teething.

read that for more fun cat dental facts.
this drs. fosters and smith sells cat dental supplies but so probably does a pet supply place in your town. Get kitty some little chew toy or some beef jerky and let him work out.

Just give the kitten lots of love so that he will not be a meanie when he gets older. Play with him with some chew toys so that he learns to chew on those instead of the furniture or you. Lol. Get a peice of yarn and he will chase it for hours...It's soo cute to see the things kittens will play with. Lol. When getting him some cat chew toys, make sure that there isn't any catnip in them. Catnip isn't good for kittens, only for adult kitties.

His teeth are itching so he needs to bit something....not hard, it can hurt him....

A thick coir rope will be fine or you can always pick up rubber chew stuff .. they come in bone shape fer dogs & sometimes fish shapes for cats,...or if you dont like to give it artificial toys or cant afford them, make your own....

take an old thick t-shirt..cut it out into a big rectangle....now find old rags, socks, bits of cut out jeans material, old shirts, sleeves, anything will do, but dont use cotton because the kitty might tear it & swallow fibres...any thick material will do........fold the teeshirt into half, sew up three sides of it, first & then turn it inside out & stuff it with rags & sew up the last edge...

these are more beneficial...they have your smell on them, & your cat may find it more comfy

also, rubber chew bones may start disintegrating if the kittens teeth are shap....so they may swallow bits of it..

Good Luck
