Golly - what a fine selection of intelligent and entertaining answers. And no-one's (shud tht b no1s?) gone off the deep end, if you will forgive the colloquialism.
Does no-one say "FOLK" nowadays? Golly ;-) - I do. It must be my entirely ordinary comprehensive school upbringing!!!
I guess I'm just an old codger!!!

Thanks for your answers. Brightened up my day :-)

(gosh - I hope there are no typos in here else I'll look such a wally....)

The Internet has influenced many to take shortcuts when writing emails and other things. Things like LMAO or ROFLMAO. As a direct result, other words and sentence structures are abused. I can assure you that the offenders are not only the young but those who should know better. In some cases these are teachers as well.
As for Gangster Rap: There are more literate Gangster Rappers than you might think. However, they play to the decadence of society.

I think it's like noticing that the policemen look very young. In the battle of the oldies, I can probably win. I'm so old that I still cringe when I hear a split infinitive, which means I'm older than Starship Enterprise.
On the other hand, since I work from home, my 'commute' is roughly 30 seconds. Oh God! just typing that has sent shudders up and down my spine!

What's all this about young folk being at school.......... it strikes me that any of them of 14+ seem to think they're too old to attend school (because they are already perfect in every way......) so have this intense desire to stand around on street corners wearing clothing suitable to hide their identity (and possibly drugs - and even worse almost suddenly, guns!).
I just wonder how they'll get on when they really DO have to write properly! Even the very lovely and wonderful (sic!) Mr Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London and Co.Ltd) has started to get worried about it, surprisingly with (and I quote!) "young blacks". If HE notices it, it MUST be a bad situation!

Not just you but a significant minority, possibly even the majority. That is comprehensive education; if the parents are not wealthy then the children are condemned to the lowest standard of schooling.

it isnzt yu! Maney of the yung peple on tis Q & A site don't take the tim to spel chek! (just kidding on my spelling).

You are correct, though. Many of the young people are too excited about getting the points and answers through rather than spell checking their own work before it is posted.
This question has been posted so many times before that I am also tired of seeing it.

Before computer spell checkers there were two types of people; those who could write correctly and those who couldn't. Now you have those who can, those who can't and don't care and those who can't and let a spell check repair things ... badly.

there is a little spell checker right at the top of the replies for posting so there should be no need for any errors
