If you hold it behind the head, it isn't turning around and biting you. When you put it down, its first reaction is to get away, because its afraid. If it does turn around and strike, that's what the boots are for.

Godless’s description was the way I always handled our snapping turtles.

It seems an appropriate question to the category since there are some Christians who handle dangerous snakes as a way to show faith in God. I’m sure they have a well-practiced technique for picking them up and putting them down.

This is based on the following verses -

Mk 16:17 "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all;"

HOWEVER, you will probably also fond this notation -

“The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20.”

My view, don’t handle them at all if you can help it. Professionals have anti venom shots right there for immediate treatment if necessary. I’ll bet people who do it as a show of Faith do as well. (Sorry for the cynicism but I think there are more responsible ways to demonstrate Faith).

Actually, there are some demoninations of Christianity that still practice snake handling. They tend to either put hte snake down by laying its body in place first then releasing the head, or holding it by the tail, letting the head touch the ground, hten letting go to the rest of the body. Much the same method that naturalists and herpitologists (those that study snakes) use.

Maybe you should ask the science and math section. I don't touch them...I see your edit now...I don't touch them from a religious standpoint..I recommend that you don't...very dangerous.

I think an agile throwing move should do the trick - well, at least for the human :D

Don't think about picking one up and you won't have to put it down. They are very dangerous even when you know what your doing...
