Mormons believe in the visions of Joseph Smith Jr, which state:
"My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right - and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a godliness, but they deny the power thereof" (The Pearl of Great Price 2:18 and 19)

Jae hit the nail right on the head. It the authority to act in the name of Jesus Christ that is the main difference. Yes, we have the Book of Mormon, and other scriptures that are unique to us, but the reason we have them is because we have the Priesthood, which is the Authority of Jesus Christ - to act in His name.
As Jae said, the Catholic church believes such authority was passed down through Peter. Whereas other Christian churches believe it was given to the congregation of believers themselves.
We believe that after Christ and His 12 Apostles died, this authority to speak and act on behalf of, in the name of Jesus Christ was taken from the earth, with a promise that it would return "in the fullness of times".
However I respect the Catholic church for basically keeping hope alive through the "Great Apostacy", even though it was through their Popes that much of the Gospel was lost. Just like some people do not agree with Mormon beliefs, yet respect us for the way we live, and that we have the faith to live what we believe, so I have for the Catholic adherants.

Mormons believe that God has not ceased communicating with mankind. Therefore, God continues to love His people and provide them with guideance through a living prophet, just as He did in the Bible. Because of the direct revelation, there can be clarity, new guideance, etc. The Catholic church as changed significantly over time, often through votes and sympathy (not knocking the Catholic church). The Catholic church does contain many wonderful truths, but the Mormon church just claims to have more of the truths and that it is less changed.

I am not a mormon, but the answer they would give is that there is a prophet and priesthood restored.

The response to this is tha the prophet is false. He proved himself to be false and so did the current president. The book of Deuteronomy says we are to have nothing to do with false prophets.

The response the the restored priesthood is in the book of Hebrews. It says that Jesus is the Aaronic and Melchizedek high priest. There only was one at a time in the past and Jesus rules forever. That means that whatever they "restored" is a false restoration and not in keeping with the original that God set out.

Many churches contain a lot of good and true things (Catholic included of course) but the main difference is the "Authority of the Priesthood" whereby the ordinances of salvation can be performed be recognized by God as valid. (ordinances such as baptism or bestowing the gift of the Holy Ghost).

The Catholic Church claims that the Priesthood Authority continued with them through Peter.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon)claims that the true Priesthood Authority was lost from the Church after the death of Jesus Christ and apostles. This is known as "The Great Apostasy" and since it was lost, it had to be "Restored" and it was restored in the latter days from God through the prophet Joseph Smith.

I was raised Catholic but when I was 25 I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after God showed me through his power that it was His Church....otherwise I wouldn't know...the only way you can really know which is true is to have God reveal it to you.

While we beleive that we are the only true church on the earth, we beleive other churches have some of the ordinances and beleifs too. But we have some things that the other do not, like the keys of the preisthood and direct revelations by a prophet of God.

Short answer, nothing. The Catholic is more Christian than the Mormon church. God speaks to all of us through the Bible. We have no need for false prophets to claim that God is speaking to them. God can tell us what he wants for us individually, we don't need a man to tell us. The B-i-b-l-e,yes that's the book for me!

At least you admit the Catholic Church is true. Concerning the Mormon Church, if you assign consecutive numbers to each of the letters, starting with 1=C, to the name: "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" and add up these numbers it will total 666. Is this church the name of a man as designated in Revelations?

Let me rephrase this question ... What makes Joseph Smith more true than Jesus Christ?
