You NEED to keep the cone collar on her. That is there so that she cannot mess with the stiches and tear them out. And also so that she doesn't aggravate the area that is infected. You did the right thing by taking her back to the vet after you noticed it getting infected. The antibotics should help get rid of the itch. You should see improvement in a couple of days...
Put her on her leash and walk her around the house so that she will get used to the collar. She should move around after you do that. She just needs to learn that it will not hurt her and she is just uncomfortable with it. But, putting her on her leash and walking her around should get her more comfortable. Do not walk her too long, because since she was recently spayed she cannot jump or run or get too much excersize. It will aggravate the wound from her surgery and possibly cause some problems.

First off if you do apply a cream topically you need to keep the collar on her. Neosporin will be licked off, and can cause serious damage when ingested. Your vet should have put her on an oral, and then the collar problem is something that some dogs just don't ever like or get used to. My question to you is how long have to had the collar on her? You might have to give her a couple of hours to a day to get used to it and learn no, you won't take it off, and that it's not hurting her in anyway. Do take it off for 2-3 hours every so often though and watch to make sure she doesn't irritate her suture site. This will allow her time to feed, get water, run around if she is still experiancing problems with collar.

My poor golden did the same thing when had a horrible hot spot. I took the collar off and just made sure he wasn't licking the area durring the day. However the collar went on at night. I woudn't clean the incision with peroxide that would sting like crazy!
Putting neosporine on is ok but she may just lick that off too.
The best thing to do is call your the vet back and tell them whats going on and get their advice.
Make sure she is eating well and getting plent of clean water.
If her appitite is off a bit then make her some cokked ground chicken or turkey and mix some cooked rice. It's very bland and will not upset her tummy.
Good luck!

Anything topical is probably going to be licked off if the collar is not on. Further, if the collar is not on, it's possible for the dog to irritate or even rip the seam. Given the possible dangers, i'd keep the collar on. Once the dog figures out it's not going to get any special treatment by her behavior, she'll adapt and get with the program.

Check with your vet on reactions with the meds but any antibiotic for people should help. Also, I can't help but laugh a little when I think of dogs wearing the cone. My pug had to wear one and she did the same thing. Just standing there for hours and than see would turn in circles and run into all the walls. I swear I lost 5 lbs. from laughing the week she wore it. Poor thing it is so sad but soooooooo funny too. Sorry but I just pictured my poor little pug and am laughing again.

Whatever you do do not use any creams that have steriod in it as steriod inhibits the healing process and will make it worse.
You can get a bitter spray which will stop her from licking and chewing at the wound site and then you do not need to use the collar.
If you are worried take back to vet and get them to have a look at it again - they shouldn't charge you!

My Boston Lily had the same problem. Use a spray wound solution cleaner and neospor. on the stiches. Works great and Neither of them sting.

Ask your vet if its ok to spray the area with bitter apple. it doesn't help the healing process but it tastes gross so it should keep her from licking it.
