A shoe is a slot on a camera or in this case, camcorder that allows you to attach a light or a mic. A hot shoe provides the electricity, while a cold shoe is simply a holder for the mic. So in your case, look for mics that use external batteries, and don't draw power from the shoe. The Rode Videomic and stereo videomic are both good choices as they use 9v batteries, and provide excellent sound for a relatively low price. Hope this helps!

I consider Mandy - technically, you could. i does no longer have confidence that mic adapter to hold plenty weight. A marvel-mount, mic and cable are plenty to anticipate that little piece of plastic to hold and stability. i could advise utilising a digital camera bracket (seek "bower digital camera bracket" at amazon interior the U. S. to comprehend what it is) and use that or something such as function a pair of chilly accessory shoes - one shoe for the mic yet another for a video easy (if needed)...

I think you'll find that it's a means of attaching a mic to (?) a camera etc without it making an automatic electrical connection (like most flash attachments do to cameras) and therefore needs a separate connecting lead.
