Yes, it´s really stunning and geographically diverse place.
Excellent scenery, food, arts and culture, and I love the language!
However going somewhere for a vacation and living there are two completely different things.
My wife is from Italy and I am from South Africa.
It would have been a lot easier for us to live there but we chose Spain because the cost of living is cheaper and the politics are better.
Basically it´s easier to get things done here.
Hope this helps.
if you´re going for holidays have a great time anyway,
check out the lake districts in the North - Lago di Como, Lago Maggiore,
also Rome of course - the night life in Trastevere, and Ostia beach if you are going in Summer - the Romans make going to the beach an art form!

Yes, Italy is a wonderful place... if you are a tourist: nice cities, history everywhere, breathtaking landscapes, nice and helpful people...
But living in Italy is completely different: chaotic and bad organized, everything goes slowly and nothing seems to work.
In comparison to other countries (example Germany, which I'm fond of) people in Italy really live in Middle-Ages, as Erlampo says. Both in the way things work and in the way people think and behave.

Ok I'm Italian too and I live in Italy, Rome (Caput Mundi!). Italy is a wonderful country, with wonderful people and very good food and wine. We have beautiful beaches (Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Liguria) and at the same time beautiful mountains too (Monte Bianco, Cervinio, etc). It is a country which is unique for its culture and its history.
For what concern bureaucracy it is true, it is very hard to live with it, but it is for this reason that Italians can easily find solutions and to face questions!!!! Sorry, but I cannot stand people making stupid reasoning!!!!!!

I'm sorry for my message in Italian, howevere I'd like to say that we, in Italy, don't live in the middle-ages, remember that we have art, culture, literature....and dear american guys...who discovered America??Do you remember it?

It's a beautiful place to visit, but socially the Italians are still living in the Middle Ages. The bureaucracy is a nightmare and no one takes responsibility for anything.
