Making choices in the face of consequences is not where the Idea of free will is weak.
Every decision has consequences.

Where free will falls down is the Idea that God knows the future.
If the future is predictable, divinely preordained in other words, then your actions are also preordained.
That means you are on a path that you have no choice over and anything that looks like free will is a delusion.

So if you have free will then God doesn't know the future and that creates a problem for the all seeing, all knowing, future predicting God and his ability to prophess future events. (This means the prophets were bogus too.)

Those are the most obvious problems with free will.

Classical physics with its predetermination of the furure by the present gives the same type of problem.
If you knew everything about how fast and what direction everything was moving, and its location at one time, then according to newtonian mechanics you could predict the future with the same certainty God could have.
Same results as far as free will is concerned.

Free will kills Gods. Free will kills perfect knowledge.

free will has nothing to do with god or with heavens...
Man is condemned to make a choice in every second of his life. Some choices are good for him and some arent. Whether he is fully aware of the consequences of his choices is more important than whether he has free will or not. He may sincerely think that the option he chooses is good for him and for mankind but it may come out the other way around. At such cases he cant be held responsible. The problem is that most of our choices are made in full ignorance of the consequences.

Why shouldn't there be consequences for a choice? There always is...good consequences and bad. How does having a consequence make free will any less free will?

Free will is the ability to choose to not love God. He could have created us without it and we would have loved him because we were programmed that way. He wanted us to love him because we chose too...so he gave us "free will" and he stands by that even though it hurts him.

God's will is always that we love him. But many people do not follow God's will because of their free will.

You do not get to define the term free will and then expect God to act according to your definition.

You do not understand the definition of free will.

Free will is simply the ability to choose. Without that ability we would only be robots... or animals ruled by instinct.

We can choose what color shirt to wear. What to have for breakfast. What job to do. ALL of these choices have consequences. It's "cause and effect". If you choose to have only coffee for breakfast the 'effect' is that you will be hungry - whereas if you choose to have a bowl of oatmeal you will be less hungry.

There is right and there is wrong. If you choose to committ a crime then the "effect" is that you will be punished for it.

If you CHOOSE to disobey God then there are consequences for that choice, as well.

Free will does not negate consequences.

The definition of Islam is "surrender to or compliance with God's will."

The idea that there are consequences to one's decisions does not prevent people from making those decisions. You may decide to rob a bank, for example. There is nothing to prevent you from making that decision and carrying out the action. The consequences ought to be considered in the process of making the decision, but the end result of the process is entirely up to you.

Free will means you have the freedom to make your own decisions. Just because there may be a consequence you do not like does not mean that you are not free to make that decision. All decisions have consequences.
Hold and pencil in your hand and then drop it. It falls. That is the nature of the world we live in.
There are consequences like that that are easy to see, and others that are not so easy to see.

Wrong.

If you use your freewill to go kill someone right now...you will be held responsible and prosecuted for murder.

Freewill means you choose - so you are responsible.
No freewill means you do not choose - how could you be held accountable for when you could not choose otherwise?

The problem is you do not know what freedom means...even if you are free, there are consequences. Freedom does not mean you can do anything you want. I don't understand how people can come to that conclusion...totally the wrong meaning of freedom.

The US is called a free country - but there still are laws and consequences for actions.

All choices come with consequences, that is just plain fact.

Here is what the real question that you should ask of yourself.

Are you a good person? What a question, most of us believe that we are good people because we can look around and find someone that is far worse than we are. We can always point to the things that we think make us a good person.

But how good are we really? Dare we take this test and look at ourselves and see if we really are good? Hmmm.

If you are willing try this and see just how good a person you are.

The Good Person Test.

How will you do? Pass or fail?

Have you ever told a lie?
Doesn't matter how big or small, just a lie.
What does that make you? Before answering think about this, if I told you a lie what would you call me? A liar?

Have you ever stolen anything? Cost doesn't matter, a piece of gum, failed to give back an ink pen that you borrowed, anything.
What does that make you?

Jesus said, "You know the saying of old, you shall not commit adultery but I say that if look at someone to lust after them you have committed adultery in your heart.
Have you ever lusted?

Jesus said that hate is equal to murder.
Have you ever hated anyone?

See one day we all are going to stand before a Holy God on Judgment Day and he is going to judge us based on His Holy Law, the Ten Commandments. These are just 4 of them and how did you do? Guilty? I have broken all of these and more, what about you? How well will you do on Judgment Day?

If we break just one point of God's Law we are guilty of breaking all the law and Gods Wrath abides upon us all. Based on God's Law we are all guilty and all are deserving of punishment. But there is an out for us.

Jesus paid the price for each one of us, took on himself God's Wrath so we wouldn't have to face it on our own. Jesus was beaten, battered, bleed and died so we wouldn't have to face God's Wrath. He rose again so that we would life in his presence. Our crimes, His payment.

The real question is where will you stand on Judgment Day. Pay yourself or have it paid for you. Think about it.

Free will doesn't mean free as in no consequences. It means we have the freedom of choice. We are not forced make decisions. We are given the opportunity to make them on our own. The consequences of our choices should be considered when making them.

That's a question with no-validity.

Free will is Freedom of Choice and Freedom to act. The results aren't a part of that. THe US is a Country of "freedom" but you have to pay for acting out of place. You still can do whatever you want. You are trying to mold this term to fit your limited view (or knowledge) in attacking God. Pitiful attempt.

Consequences are simply results. They can be good or bad. Hence, you can't avoid them. They are simply the reaction to whatever action taken. They have no part to play in freedom of choice. They are initiated when an act is made. Shame on you.
