Ive been with my boyfriend for a long time and i feel that if i was to talk about him to someone saying "my boyfriend" just doesnt seem to portray my real feeling and strength of our relationship. Boyfriend to me sounds more junior high-ish, a boyfriend could be someone you have been seeing for only a month or two. I guess im just venting.

We are not engaged yet, but will be soon, so saying "my boyfriend" just doesn't seem to portray the importance he holds in my life. Anyone else feel this way? Or am i the only one ?

I can see that you love him so much, just like, "say I love you but I lie, cause ..." "boyfriend" just can't express all the feelings you got from him and such an important place of him in your heart!
That's a lovely thought, but, whatever you call him, he's still your beloved one, only one, fantastic one,... If you still want to call him "more exactly", why don't you tell and ask him. This will bring both of you another wonderful time together talking about your feelings... How about saying "I met my honey/ sweetie/ man/ babe..." in front of your friends. What a great emotion!

I agree, I grew up on u . s .,u . s . & western. As a 40 4 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous, I heard categories, yet u . s .,u . s . & western continues to be the tops, particularly classic u . s . from the 1950's - mid 1980's. after 1986 it went all down hill. this not undemanding u . s .-rock (as I call it) is for the birds. good element I even have an excellent selection of real u . s . song.

i have felt like that with my "boyfriend" cause sometimes people ask us if we are married or are engaged and we just say that we are thinking about......but when i talk to strangers i just say my fiancee, only because we are, just like you say, more than just boyfriend and girlfriend. I have a ring that he got me a ring a couple years ago, it was a promise ring but we cant afford to buy another one right now...we have been together for four years and living togehter for 2...good luck just refered to him the way you feel about him, but also dont lie to yourself...meaning dont pretend something is not! Good luck

I agree that words that have the words "girl" and "boy" in them mean just that. It implies that the mentioned party is a child or the relationship has a "puppy-love" impression.
I prefer the term "significant other." It can mean a devoted partnership and/or a relationship bonded by marriage.

haha, i said the same exact thing! It sounds to temporary! Me and my bf call each other soulmates, or future wife or husband! Because i was like " we are going to be togther forever, we're just not engaged quite yet, so boyfriend and girlfriend sound wrong!"
So then we came up with different names that siuted us better like: soulmates, true love, future wife/husband!

yeh... been with my "boyfriend" for about 8 years now and its even sometimes embarrassing to refer to him as such... half the time i catch myself calling him my husband when talking about him to other people even though i dont even believe in marriage. it still sounds a bit less juvenile than "boyfriend..." we need a new word for these guys... feh

I hardly ever use the term "boyfriend" - it just seems to put unwanted pressure and emphasis on the relationship - I use terms like "jellybean" "my sweet" "my guy" - it just seems cuter, closer (like we have our own secret code) and less "high schoolish"
