Are the actual cords for the newer compondent video special besides the fact that they are blue, green, yellow, white, and red, instead of just the 3 colors it used to be on the older tv hookups? Or are they the same cords, just with new color labels. I guess what im asking is do i need to go out and buy new cords, or can i just use an extra older style red or yellow cords to link the blue, ect... on my new hookup.

Thanks.

They are not the same. That is why they used different color codes - so people would not get them mixed up. The older cables you have that are yellow, red and white cannot be used to substitute for the blue, green and red color coded connectors for component video. However, after saying this, IF you have three sets of the older cables you can use the yellow coded cable to substitue for each of the three video signals as long as you match the colors ( blue - blue, green - green and red - red ).

They are basically the same, the old RCA Cables only gave you a left and right audio, red and white, and 1 video, yellow. Newer TV's and components are equipped with Red, Green, and Blue cables, these cables only send that corresponding color through them. Then the TV combines those colors to allow you to see the best possible picture.

Component video is three video cables (red, blue, green). The red, white and yellow cables are composite cables. The yellow cable is a video cable. The red and white cables are audio cables. Audio cables are usually not as thick as video cables so I've heard that you don't want to use them for video. If you have 3 video cables, then go ahead and use them. If your current cable set is red, blue, yellow (all video) and red/white (audio) then you should be ok. I've just never seen red, blue, yellow together before. It is usually red, blue, green.

The cords themselves should be the same, but the means in which siginal is transfered through them is differnt than the old a/v cable.
Red & white are left and right audio, R,B,G are the various parts of the video siginal, they are broken into their own lines to restrict less.
And old cable should work.
