I mean who do you think led the charge against slavery?
While other denominations were trying to use the Bible to justify kidnapping Africans and whipping them regularly, the Quakers decided that conscience and the Golden Rule were what counted. They called for abolition when it made people around them angry and uncomfortable.

My family is black and we are also Quakers. I’m not exactly sure when my family joined the Quaker religion but I think it was before slavery was abolished. But it’s not only the Quaker abolitionist work that I’m thankful for, I’m also thankful for their work in promoting and giving equal education to blacks.

Americans in general should be thankful for Quaker influence; they did a lot of work promoting woman’s rights, freedom of religion, democratic institutions. That is why it’s really sad that Quakerism seems to be a dying religion. We just can’t compete with Mormons and Evangelicals that are very aggressive at converting people. Quaker's take the "our door is always open" approach.

No the most important thing is going to heaven. The Bible is what counts not becoming a Quaker because of the facts that you stated.

people in england starved rather than work in the cotton mills that used slavery. people in my own family died, it was a group achievement, not just quakers.

What does a person's skin color have to do with religion? It isn't one's color that matters. It is what's in a person's heart.
