If you don't need counseling, then why do you go to a confessional? Why not just pray your sins away?

It is not always will power as you have just indicated by suggesting prayer. Sometimes it is about faith or a lack thereof. Sometimes it is an actual medical condition which requires a treatment of drugs, although I believe that doctors today WAY over prescribe these drugs.

People who have faith strong enough to overcome these issues solely through prayer are the minority today. I think because this type of therapy, although the most beneficial in the long run, is also the most difficult. We are a society of wanting immediate results. So, unfortunately, we turn to drugs as prayer does not always have the immediate results we would really like to have.

Your question is a bit harsh since in some cases, the medication helps to control the hormones that cause these imbalances in the body. Just wanting to feel better does not fix all the problems right away.

Buddhism teaches that we have to look inside for the answers to our problems, so I do agree with you that they need more will power and having "faith" in Jesus helps those who believe in Jesus. It doesnt mean that Jesus made everything better.

Wow. When did you get your medical degree?? Clinical depression is a PHYSICAL disability, and has nothing to do with believing and trusting in God.

Clinical depression is not just grief or sadness. It is an illness that can challenge your ability to perform even routine daily activities. At its worst, depression may lead you to contemplate or commit suicide.

Clinical depression affects about 19 million Americans annually. It is estimated to contribute to half of all suicides. About 5-10 percent of women and 2-5 percent of men will experience at least one major depressive episode during their adult life. Depression affects people of all races, incomes, and ages, but it is 3-5 times more common in the elderly than in young people.

The causes of depression are complex. Genetic, biological, and environmental factors can contribute to its development. Currently, it appears that depression occurs as a result of abnormalities in the levels of certain chemicals in the brain, called neurotransmitters. The abnormalities are thought to be biological, and are not caused by anything you did.

Do some research before you help contribute to the suicide of a depressed person, dude.

First off, you must understand that not everone knows or understands this. Jesus dealt with the 'sin' problem so we could be able to re-establish communication with God (spritually). It takes time to establish an ongoing spiritual relationship with God, since it is the realm he deals in. How many people do you know that are in the 'spirit' all or most of the time, ididn't think so. We exist in the 'natural', God in the "spirit works for us in both. Spritual help is manifested in the natural. Doctors, medicine, healthy foods are in the natural and need to be utilized until spritual healing is manifested. Doubt and unbelief are 'undone' by the 'practical application' of faith. Also some people have extremely deeprooted problems that they need to talk out. This helps low self esteem, hurts, self incrimination etc. to be dealt with.

I'm a living proof that Jesus is the answer. I went through postpartum depression, no anti-depressant help me. Is just like taking drugs. They just make you happy for a while, then your back to you own depress self. I stopped using pills and started to read the Bible. Going to Church to get spiritual healing help my self esteem and help me realize that God has giving me many blessing and that there reasons to live for. Depression will be the enemy that want to destroy you. Everybody on a time of their life would go through depression for one thing or another. Satan takes away your will power, only if you read the Bible you can fight these feeling.

I think that a depressed person should go to therapy. I really don't agree with medication, because it only takes away the problem, but it doesn't solve it.
If a person is religious then I think that person should pray and go to therapy as well.
I have borderline personality disorder, depression and I self harm. My life is very difficult right now and it doesn't help that I'm living in a foreign country far away from my family and friends. I'm going through therapy and it's very helpful and I'm also beginning to allow God to help me. It is working.

Yeah. Like praying is a sane and rational way to deal with your problems. Last time I checked, it didn't solve anything.

Zoloft, Prozac, etc. are medications, and they have a medical use, which is to correct chemical imbalances in the brain. That is a medical issue, not a religious issue.

Mental health. Very important.

for one YOU are not being very christian. Jesus left the example of love and compassion.

Sometimes people have a chemical imbalance or other issue. Some people with a non-mental issue are born without a limb or disfigured. Through christ they find the inspiration to accept the disability given to them, but if you are chemically imbalanced you may not be able to see this light.

Of course it is always easy to be judgmental of people you cannot understand. Skinny people think fat people just need to diet, people look at others with acne and say they need to wash...etc....until they experience or at least sympathize they will remain a cruel and ignorant example of the decitful influence of you know who.

You are christian by example and you are no christian. You need to find your faith. honestly

are you for real!!!!!!! Jesus died and rose to open the gate to Heaven. Our sins aren't automatically forgiven by His actions like some Christians think. we still have to earn Heaven by faith and good deeds. Just believing in Jesus doesn't get you to Heaven.

Now, I am on 2 anti-depressants and an anxiety pill. I have suffered from severe depression since my teens. I have been on and off pills for many years. I've without pills and just counseling. I've tried with just prayer. I need pills, counseling and God. God created my counselor and put her in my life. God also created the natural herb that I use in my tea. So I have God's guidance with me through my hard times. But without these pills I cut myself and try suicide and yell at everyone and hurt others. I am bipolar and awful. I am stable now and life is good. I give credit to God and others that have helped me. God's spirit is with me daily.

Your question seems to me to be quite over simplified. There are numerous physical and chemical imbalances which need to be treated. Depression is a real medical condition as is bi-polar disorder, PTSD, etc and God in His infinite wisdom has given us the means and knowledge to treat these physical and emotional ailments. Its not about lack of will-power.
