Actually it's been doing a world of harm to people for generations and is responsible for many evils.

Typical of Christians to claim it is the best book. It is cited as the most sold but that is only in the Western world by western publishers it takes no account of many other foreign publishers figures. But nonetheless it may well be the most sold. Well look at all those bibles the Gideons buy to put in hotel rooms for a start. All the bibles bought to thrust into foreign lands by so called evangelists.
But on content - definitely not the best book by a long chalk. Even biblical scholars cannot agree on quite a bit of it. Original documents are locked away in the Vatican and no one - not even scholastic experts, is allowed to see it. Therefore there has to be something to hide and it surely cannot be the truth can it?!!!
The truth is there is, and cannot be, a single best book. There are other religions, all sorts of non fiction topics and many good fiction topics. The only time the bible would get voted the best is where there are a lot of Christians. Take a survey in the Arab world and the Koran would no doubt come out top.
Free choice and freedom of speech should be prized above all else and therefore there should be no such thing as a best book.

Yes! no matter what atheism's say. I will believe in God till the day I die. Because God has save me from near dead situations since childbirth. I'm not a fool as a Christian. I was a fool when I didn't believe. I received my Bible as a gift from a dear friend in 2000. She wrote me this note in the Bible: May this book be of help in your life. Your Friend who cares about you dearly. I was skeptic at the time!! I use to judge Christians too. Now in 2007 I have became Christian not because I was brainwashed, but by my own personal experiences. When I was in trouble I would turn to read the Bible that made me stronger as a person, spirituality. I would give me strength to go on in life it will give me wisdom. even if there hurt full people that want to destroy you belief. If I believe Atheism then I would be brainwashed, and unhappy for ever. I love God dearly. With God life is Good!

No, it has likely held the world back. Who knows where science would be had it not been for religion. Ever wonder why the world had "The Dark Ages"? It is called the attempt to control all the information, and keep in it the "hands" of very few.

Yes I believe history proves that. there have been dark times but when you look at the sheer numbers of Bible believing Christians in the world right now it is mind numbing! if only half of the Christians from its beginning to now really practiced the BIBLICAL teachings (and the number is staggering) that shows that hands down the BIBLE is #1 all time Champion of books!

Yes, and yes.
To all those that blame the Bible for religious wars and such - do you also blame science for what it has done? Science created all the bombs and other weapons we have today, whether explosive, chemical, or biological. Yet, it's misuse is rightly blamed on people. So too, the Bible in the wrong hands can be dangerous, but that is not a fault of the book itself.

Which version of the 'bible' are you talking about? Personally, i think any religious book, has caused more problems for humanity than anything else. Religion and their books, have caused wars, deaths, hatred, anger and intolerance. All the things that go against the 'teachings' of a 'bible' !!!

YES, i think that it is, look how many people uses it, how many people base their truth on it, and how much time has passed and the bible is still being printed, those are the aspects that for me say how good a book, regardless of the content or if i read it or not.

You can't be serious. Have you opened up a history book lately?
Wars. Genocide. Killing of innocent women. The holocaust. The Crusades.
Guess what was the motivation for these.
The Bible is FAR from being a "good book".
